Hi! My name is Amy and I am a veteran history teacher (12 years!) and I live in Brooklyn, New York. Prior to teaching, I spent 8 years on Capitol Hill as a policy advisor. Teaching government comes naturally to me because I actually lived it.

While walking the halls of power was fun, I love working with students. I currently teach 9th grade global history and a 12th grade politics at a rigorous independent school in Manhattan. I have taught world and US history at the middle and high school level, and have taught AP World History and AP US History. I've tutored these subjects and AP US Government for over 8 years.

What do students love about working with me? I'll let my former tutees say it for themselves: I have a strong command for AP history material; I help students prepare in concrete ways for challenging, on-demand writing tasks; and I help ease student anxiety about exam prep. My students often learn more in their hour with me each week than with their actual teacher. (Feel free to read other student and family feedback to get to know me better!) While many of my students have earned 4s and 5s on their AP exams, just as many who have earned 3s (and happily!!) have expressed satisfaction with exceeding their own expectations with preparing for these rigorous courses and exams.

What else to say? I love teaching because I love seeing my students' development as thinkers and writers. I also love the relationships I have built with students, many of which will last a lifetime. I am excited to help you develop your skills and study habits! Hope to hear from you soon.

Highly knowledgeable & patient tutor!

Amy was such a blessing for my daughter over the summer helping her with her AP summer assignments. She was extremely flexible with my daughter's ever changing schedule and even met with over her vacation time to insure she was ready for the start of the school year. Amy was not only extremely knowledgeable about the material, but she was also able to help my daughter become a more proficient notetaker. I highly recommend Amy and will continue to hire her as a supplement during my daughter's school year.

Amy knows her stuff and is an excellent teacher!

My daughter participated in Amy's APUSH study groups for the AP exam. She was uncertain and overwhelmed by all the info, but Amy was able to coax out her confidence out with well-planned exercises and drills. Amy's coaching of consistent discipline up till the last night of the exam helped my daughter profoundly - and right after the exam, she texted me to say that the test had gone well. But the most important by-product of Amy's tutoring was my daughter's recognition that her nerves and anxiety were getting in the way of connecting with the questions in front of her, and thus while studying she was able to summon the determination to understand the questions fully before moving on. Major epiphany for my daughter, which in my book equates to true confidence which she will take to college with her. Thanks, Amy!

Amazing teacher!

Ms. Amy definitely made me feel better about the APUSH exam. It was really helpful to go step-by-step through the process of planning DBQs, and learning important tips like sourcing. I learned how to better condense my ideas and organize efficiently. She’s also very easy to talk to and even helped me revise a DBQ multiple times after our session! She is such an amazing teacher and I am lucky to have her as my tutor. I highly recommend her!

My kid was struggling with her DBQ essay for APUSH but she was extremely efficient and my kid understood so much better after her first lesson.
