I studied chemical engineering in college, but now my professional work is in mechanical engineering. I taught engineering thermodynamics as an adjunct professor at the university level for 3 years. After finding the size of lecture classes too big to make a meaningful impact, I decided to focus on teaching and tutoring in smaller group settings. I emphasize developing a real understanding of a topic rather than doing enough to just get by on your test. Students who learn to understand rather than to get by tell me they retain their knowledge for much longer. I love tutoring because I know that I am making an impact on a learner's growth so they can advance their careers and achieve their goals.

I did very well in math topics throughout high school, undergraduate, and graduate studies. Most of my tutoring to date is in math intensive fields, such as engineering or finance.

I have extensive experience with computers for my professional work.

My weekday hours are for online tutoring sessions only. I am available on weekends for both online or in-person sessions. I have completed both a BS in Chemical Engineering and an Masters of Engineering in Chemical Engineering. I have previously tutored 1-on-1 in all subjects in the field, including graduate level courses intended for PhD students in chemical engineering: material and energy balances, chemical reactor design, unit operations, plant design, heat exchanger design, polymer technologies, transport phenomena, thermodynamics for chemical engineers, and heat and mass transfer. Tutoring methods include reviewing textbook derivations from fundamental principals (since most textbooks skip intermediate steps) and reviewing assigned homework problems.

My mechanical engineering expertise from my studies and work is in the subjects of thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid dynamics. I can size pumps and motors, and solve 1D, 2D, 3D, and partial differential equations . There are some other topics in mechanical engineering that are NOT a good fit for me to tutor: materials science, materials engineering, structures engineering, dynamic systems, multibody systems, space dynamics, vibrations, tensors, or control theory.

I am able to model using traditional methods such as solid body modeling, surface modeling, or sheet metal operations. I am fully experienced with creating parts, assemblies, and drawings with BOMs. I can teach bottom-up or top-down design for assemblies.
