About David

Hi there,

I was born in Switzerland to an American father and a Swiss-French mother. I carry all three of these nationalities and am 100% fluent in both languages. I grew up and lived in French speaking Switzerland for 25 years, where I also tutored English. I now live in New York where I'm working on the double project of teaching/tutoring and making art (photography, literature, music...).

I studied French (literature and linguistics) and Philosophy at the University of Lausanne (in Switzerland) and taught French to native and non-native middle and high schoolers in prestigious schools. I've lived in NY for more than a year now and have been tutoring to students of ages 10 to 65, individually or in small groups, as a freelance and with after-school programs.

I can help anyone at any level, from the study of basic conjugation, to rigorous grammatical analysis or translation, you name it. The lessons are tailor-made to your needs. Again, it's important to me that my students make sense of what they learn and I usually find creative ways to achieve this.

I'm available Monday through Friday, from 9am to 7pm, and travel to students.

Hope to hear from you soon!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

French

I am a native French speaker with a Bachelor's Degree in French (literature and linguistics) and philosophy from the University of Lausanne in Switzerland. I've been teaching to native and non-native speakers in schools or independently for the past five years.
