Making sense of things of the past

I specialize in tutoring history and art history, but I teach in all fields of the arts and humanities. I received both my undergraduate and masters degree in history and I am currently pursuing a PhD in the subject as well. Each of my lessons, from elementary to college level education, is a mix of specific details and big picture themes. This balance is the best way to understand such important topics. I assign readings, writings, and unique homework exercises to best engage students with topics. I provide progress reports and assessments along the way.

I feel that tutoring works best when a student is comfortable, therefore I am happy to meet free of charge at any location before any lessons begin. I encourage parents or students to ask me any questions or discuss any fears they may have. These lessons are about the student, not me, so the comfort of the student and parents is the most important.

I have a BA in European history (in which I was required to take multiple classes in World and American history, as well as multiple course in other arts and humanities) as well as a M.Phil in Modern Irish History. In combination with these degrees I have been lucky enough to live in and travel to many places in Europe, learning about and experiencing the history of many locations. These experiences have made history come alive for me, and I convey that while teaching.

I have a minor in Art History in school and have a great passion for it. Ranging from pre-Renaissance to modern day, I love art and have visited many galleries around the world. In each famous gallery I have dragged traveling companions through room after room, explaining the beauty and reason of each piece.
