Hi! My name is Claire, and I have been a teacher for the last ten years. I currently work as a professional academic advisor in a college, as well as a professor of First Year Composition, Sociology, and research writing at the college level. As an instructor, I focus on developing student skills, writing at the college level, and writing across disciplines.

I graduated with a 4.0 in my Master of Liberal Arts and American Studies program at the CUNY Graduate Center, with an emphasis on American literature and culture, sociology, and history. I also graduated cum laude in my Bachelor of Arts in English Literature program, with a concentration in creative writing.

Professionally, I have been teaching and tutoring for the past ten years in a variety of settings that span one on one direct tutoring to working with large classrooms from middle school to high school. I have worked with grades 3-12, and currently work at the college level. Through all of these positions, I have created a student-focused pedagogy that is designed to help students with anxiety provoking subjects: college entrance exams, fundamental literacy, and writing from middle school to college. This method of teaching gives students the opportunity to build their confidence along with their skills, so they feel safe to take on more challenging material.

I have over seven years of experience teaching for standardized exams (including the SAT, ACT, SHSAT, PSAT, GED, GRE, NY State Regents), over ten years of experience in teaching writing, and four years of experience in teaching sociology and related social sciences. I have experience working one on one with students, working in small and large classrooms, and working in virtual settings.

Feel free to ask me any questions you have before we start working together! I am available for single sessions, short term work, or longer term tutoring schedules. I want to help you not only practice and grow your knowledge and skills, but also your confidence in the work you're doing!

Helpful and very accommodating tutor

I have had several tutoring sessions with tutors on Wyzant, all have been helpful but Claire is exceptional. She is very helpful and provides great critiques on writing assignments which positively transformed my all of assignments. I really enjoy meeting with Claire because she always has a positive attitude. Highly recommended using Claire for anyone who needs a flexible, understanding, and positive tutor.

knowledgeable and relatable

Claire is helping my daughter prepare for the shsat exam. She has started off with a baseline review to see where my daughter is at. My daughter does well in school so she has a good grasp on the material. However, Claire is helping her solidify the things that she doesn't understand.
