My approach toward tutoring stems from the idea that all students learn in different ways and at different rates. A method that works well for one student may not work well for another, and it is the job of the tutor, my job, to recognize a learning style and adapt my style to fit it. All too often, and in my own experience, educators try to force round pegs into square holes by forcing students with individual needs into mass market learning. Before I too forcefully apply a teaching style, I make a point to myself take on the role of the student and learn about my student in order to most effectively serve him or her.
I found joy in teaching early in my life, and have kept a hand in it ever since. In High School I interned with an English teacher, learning both the front and back ends of the calling. I prepared lesson plans, taught classes in fiction, poetry, and film, and met with students one on one to review difficult concepts. When College courses began I became a leader of the campus literary magazine, and regularly conducted classes that improved the writing abilities of my peers. Helping to improve the understanding of others confers upon me a double blessing: I both gain the satisfaction of watching others improve, and improve upon my own understanding. I look forward to helping you or your young one succeed.
