I graduated from Brown University with a degree in biology and completed my PhD at Columbia University in Biomedical Engineering. My undergraduate thesis was an in-depth project on cancer immunology. My graduate work was funded by the National Space Technology and Research Fellowship through NASA, and crosses the fields of DNA Nanotechnology and Synthetic Biology. As a NASA intern, iGEM graduate and PhD student, I designed a project to increase the conductivity of DNA for use in nanoelectronic biosynthesis for long-term space missions and under-resourced community laboratories. As a NASA fellow, I have represented my work across the world in Singapore, Denmark and the Continental US, most notably at the United States House of Representatives in the Fall of 2017 as a Space Technology program delegate for NASA.

I am a taekwondo instructor, music teacher, dance instructor, and science tutor; and I have been a lecturer and teaching assistant for four semesters of graduate level courses on Computational Modeling of Human Physiology and Numerical Applied Mathematics. I hope to use the Wyzant platform to help others master the basic sciences and achieve their own career goals. I have studied nine languages, earned two black belts, and used math as a basis for paper-based 3D art. Science is ultimately an art--a language--and through a careful but creative teaching style, I hope to translate and animate learning material to be engaging and easy for my students.

I'm here to help, and I can't wait to meet you!

Biology

Biology

I received my Biology degree from Brown University and my PhD in Biomedical Engineering from Columbia University. My research experience, academic record and creative engineering designs qualified me for a full-tuition scholarship from NASA, where I continue to do research.
Chemical Engineering

Chemical Engineering

My research career has focused on the re-engineering of the DNA molecule to serve as the building block for classical and quantum electronics. In doing so, I have developed the skills to engage with biochemistry, inorganic chemistry, structural biology, nanotechnology and condensed matter physics. This interdisciplinary foundation makes the basis for teaching and interpreting chemical engineering for students and researchers, and I'm happy to help with problems and research projects as needed.
College Counseling

College Counseling

I have a PhD in biomedical engineering with 10+ years tutoring experience. 200 students have come through my lab in the last 2 years, and I have mentored them in science and career management, written recommendations, and worked on their future plans. As a college mentor, I can help young scientists find a path among the varying pitfalls, viewpoints and opportunities in the current science landscape.
Genetics

Genetics

My PhD was in DNA nanotechnology, where I analyzed, designed and build nanoscale networks out of DNA sequences. Genetics is the foundation for DNA technologies, and I have been able to manupulate both microbial and non-coding DNA by hand, as well as inside computational models, for nearly 10 years.
MATLAB

MATLAB

I have assisted graduate level courses and given lectures on the use of Matlab in engineering problems for solving ODEs, analyzing networks, and visualizing data. My PhD was half Matlab, in which I build an evolutionary computing toolbox to algorithmically optimize DNA nanostructures and nonlinear network assemblies.
Thesis Writing

Thesis Writing

I wrote an interdisciplinary thesis that combined genetic algorithms, synthetic biology, biochemistry and nanotechnology. In doing so, I learned how to distill disparate subjects into a cohesive story, and have authored 30 scientific manuscripts and four patents. I have helped over 250 students in their research careers from the high school to graduate level, and have extensive experience in thesis and manuscript preparation and writing, and am here to help.
