My name is Jeff and I am a full-time professional science tutor with a passion for teaching and a track record of helping students raise their grades, improve their self-confidence, and enjoy subjects they once hated. I have worked as a tutor since high school, tutoring my friends in return for chicken sandwiches. Unfortunately, I cannot pay my rent in chicken sandwiches, but if I could, that would still be my rate.
I attended college at the University of Virginia where I worked as a tutor for the Athletic Department and helped student athletes improve their grades and study habits. I then completed a Post-Baccalaureate program in order to complete all of my pre-med coursework. During my post-bacc, I tutored college students in Bio, Orgo, and Physics. I finished my post-bacc with a 4.0 GPA and scored in the 95th percentile on my MCAT. During the summer after my first year in medical school, I worked as a Gross Anatomy teaching assistant and instructed both Physical Therapy and Physician Assistant students in the fundamentals of Gross Anatomy. This was an amazing experience and it taught me that my true love will always be teaching others and helping them achieve their goals, no matter how daunting they may seem.
I tutor Biology, General Chemistry, Physics, Organic Chemistry, Anatomy and Physiology at all levels from middle school, to high school, to AP and IB, to college level. Additionally, I can help with MCAT review and walk you through the medical school application process (i.e. work out a timeline, help brainstorm essay topics, etc.)
My tutoring philosophy is to present the material in a way that the student can easily relate to. If a student likes formulas, we will describe phenomena using formulas. If a student prefers learning visually with drawings and diagrams, then I will employ those. I will literally do anything possible and will present the material as many ways as necessary until it sticks in the student's mind.
I am also a coach. In hiring me, I will be your biggest supporter. I will bring a positivity to the experience and prove to you that you can learn anything, as long as the material is presented in the right way and you are willing to put in the work. I am extremely patient and will never make you feel down or embarrassed about your current level of knowledge, it is all about where we will end up when we are done (i.e. with a great grade/score you are satisfied with).
If you think I may be the right tutor for you, then please contact me. Thanks, and I look forward to working with you.

For students facing financial burdens, I am happy to lower my rate if that makes tutoring a more affordable option.
I was extremely lucky to have Jeff as my tutor for Organic Chemistry I this past semester.
Long story short, Orgo was a nightmare the first time around so I had to retake it. I decided to get a tutor and eventually reached out to Jeff. My first impression was that Jeff was very professional, yet laid-back and easy to talk to. He was very eager to help me reach my goals and showed willingness to do so however he could.
I can't say much more about our tutoring sessions other than that they were way better than I could have hoped. Jeff utilizes very direct and easy to understand methods for teaching the fundamentals of Orgo, and with his methods I found Orgo to be actually somewhat enjoyable. He took my least favorite course and made it my favorite -- I can't ask for much more than that. Further, the abilities I found in myself after working with Jeff were truly surprising. I went from failing every exam the last semester to getting some of the highest grades in the class.
Beyond his abilities as a tutor, Jeff is honestly just a cool dude. Our sessions felt extremely casual, like hanging out with a friend, and because the sessions were so relaxed, I feel that I learned concepts with ease. I'm happy to say that Jeff felt like a good friend by the end of my time with him.
I really don't write reviews for things unless I've found the experience to be very bad or very good. My experience with Jeff was very, very good. Do yourself a favor and reach out -- I can't emphasize this enough. I am very thankful that I did.
Jeffrey is an exceptional tutor. He helped my daughter not only end up with two As (both semesters) in her advanced chem course -- which she started barely able to follow the class -- but also feel confident and enjoy chemistry. He helped with assignments, understanding labs, test review, etc. Jeffrey is easy going, patient, extremely reliable and a lovely person. Can't recommend him enough.
I had Mr. Jeffrey as my tutor for Anatomy and Physiology a year ago, and he was excellent! He was always on time and always made sure to explain things carefully. He was especially knowledgeable on the Human anatomy and always knew his stuff. Often times he would give me extra information about the human body that I would use on my Anatomy exams. He was always patient with me and made sure I understood the topic before moving onto the next one. Overall, I wouldn't ask for a better tutor!
Jeff helped me with Physics
I did not take physics for a long time
With Jeffs help I got an A in that class
He was always on time and give very good notes
I would recommend him to anyone
Jeffrey tutored me during my 5 weeks intensive orgochem2 class at CUNY Hunter College--he was a great teacher and was amazingly supportive and kind throughout the course. Jeffrey was able to explain concepts really well and often used great analogies that helped me truly understand (rather than purely memorize) the reactions/mechanisms etc.; this ultimately decreased the amount I had to memorize (a huge time saver!), and because I was able to think through the processes logically, allowed for me to apply this knowledge to solve complex problems on test day. He was also very helpful outside of tutoring sessions as he always promptly answered orgochem questions succinctly via text (photos of hand drawn mechanism highlighting key points) or phone call. I highly recommend him to anyone struggling through orgochem material or just needing a confidence boost in this tough course!
Jeff is an excellent tutor! He was able to break down tough concepts in a way that I could understand, and was very patient when I needed to go over a concept multiple times.
I will be taking Organic Chemistry I this upcoming fall. I reached out to Jeffrey in order to obtain some basic background knowledge about the subject. After 9 lessons, I feel more than confident with the material! Jeffrey presented the topics in a way that made them FUN -- a word I never thought I would use to describe Organic Chemistry. Our lessons would fly by! He definitely knows what he's doing!
Aside from being a great teacher, Jeffrey made sure that I truly understood the concepts and mechanisms by asking plenty of "why" and "how" questions. He stressed that memorization will not get me through this course, which triggered a different way of thinking for me. Moreover, Jeffrey adapted to my learning style and presented me with plenty of visuals and charts. This helped me piece concepts together more quickly and grasp an understanding of tough material. I cannot thank Jeffrey enough for his help this summer! I feel extremely confident going in to my Organic Chemistry class. I wish him all the best!!
My son was having difficulty understanding some of the concepts presented in his high school physics course during the second quarter of the school year. We agreed he needed help and I hired Jeff based on his outstanding WyzAnt ratings and reviews. My son immediately related to Jeff on his first lesson, noting that Jeff’s easy-going conversational manner, and instruction by example, helped him attain a much better grasp of the physics concepts he was unable to understand in his high school physics class. My son was very impressed with how Jeff made some of the more complex physics subject matter easy to understand. My son’s grades improved from a “C” to a high “B” in just a couple of months, noting he could not have done this without Jeff’s patient and encouraging tutoring sessions.
In addition to helping my son improve his physics knowledge, Jeff also assisted him in preparing for the SAT Physics subject test. Thanks to Jeff, my son improved his physics SAT subject test score from the mid-600s on practice tests to the mid-700s on the actual test in a little more than a month. My son and I can’t speak more highly of Jeff as a physics tutor -- he is outstanding! Thank you Jeff!!!
So far we have reviewed physics. Jeff has an excellent grasp on physics concepts and knows how to teach big picture and then go into details.
Jeff helped me tremendously with my college general Physics I course. I would not have passed the class without his help. Jeff is great at clearly explaining the material and wants to ensure that you understand the concepts. Additionally, he has a wonderful personality and is extremely patient. He is professional, easy to reach, was always on time, and most importantly, very knowledgeable. It is unfortunate that he is leaving the area because I would have loved to have him as a tutor for Physics II and Organic Chemistry. I have had many WyzAnt tutors, but my experience with Jeff has been the best thus far and I would strongly recommend him to others.
Jeff is a fantastic and gifted teacher/ tutor. He helped me get through the second part of Organic Chemistry II. I only wish I found him earlier in the semester! Because of Jeff I gained a much deeper understanding of the material and subject matter. He is professional, patient, and fun. I highly recommend him!
I hired Jeffrey as my daughter's AP physics tutor when she was having some difficulties in the class. He is consistently friendly, courteous, and professional. More importantly, however, Jeff has been teaching her the concepts she needs to do well in the class. My daughter really enjoys his teaching style and has even admitted that she now enjoys AP Physics!
patient when I didn't understand a problem and guided me through it. Seems like a great tutor and I look forward to working with him.
I was struggling a lot with understanding how my physics professor taught our class. Jeffrey was able to take the lessons I was being taught and explain them to me in a way that I could understand and learn from. I went from failing my first exam to receiving a 95% on my second exam! He was extremely helpful and made me feel very comfortable with the materials I was learning.
Jeffrey is extremely knowledgeable and is friendly. He knows the material really well, and by all means deserves the 5 star rating. Jeffrey has helped me overcome the confusion I faced in Physics. If you are looking for a physics tutor? He is definitely the person to aim for!
Excelente! She did great in her test. She is understanding the new concepts and enjoying the practicality of physics in the everyday life. Thanks.
Jeff met with my daughter for the first time to prepare her for an upcoming exam. I made the connection with Jeff late Monday night, inquiring about a session Tuesday evening. I was impressed with his willingness to meet with us on such short notice. During the session, it took the time to assess my daughter and was patient when she included comments irrelevant to the subject. That was her way of dealing with her shyness. He patiently allowed her to express the irrelevant idea and gently got her back on track. There was quite a bit of material to cover, so he spent two hours with her. She learned and retained more in the 2 hours with Jeff than she has with her teacher. This was a great session.
Just an exceptional instructor. Truly cares about what he is doing. Looking forward to the continued lessons with Jeff.
We went over formal charges and identifying lone pairs on structures and the shortcuts for doing so, also talked about nomeclatures and the rules for naming structures.
I saw Jeffrey for Physics tutoring and I was so happy I did. He was able to explain things in a clear, simple, and concise way. He taught me things that will help me throughout my entire semester of Physics. He's a great tutor and I suggest him to anyone struggling with the hard sciences.
Jeffrey reviewed 10th grade Chemistry with my daughter in preparation for her final exam. Post-note is that she felt that she did well on the final, and that material she was previously weak on was strengthened by her tutoring session.
Jeffrey is a very knowledgeable and helpful tutor who goes above and beyond to help students. He is thorough and ensures you understand the concepts clearly. He gives sound advice to his students. Jeffrey tutored me in Physics 2 and helped me to ace this subject. I highly recommend this tutor to everyone who has difficulties in any Science Subject. He is great!
Jeffrey tutored me for chemistry and without him I would have failed the class. He's incredibly personable and makes learning fun. He makes everything easy to understand and he is so knowledgeable. He's reliable, punctual and could not be any better. I cannot recommend him enough, he's the most wonderful tutor- you'll be so lucky to have him.
What more can I say that hasn't already been said in the title?...beyond the fact that Jeffrey is extremely relatable, there is a calm assurance about his approach to teaching. he's very knowledgeable and very comfortable with the material, but it is his ability to break that material down to its common sense concepts, combined with his ability discern a student's specific learning style and tailoring his sessions it that truly sets him apart. With him, I have personally gained a greater sense of confidence about certain subject matter and, specifically, with organic chemistry material I have gained a much deeper understanding and, for the first time, a command of those concepts. His approach is professional and friendly, yet challenging and direct; though not at all threatening or confrontational. I am saddened to be losing him as a tutor, but wish him all the best as he moves on to a new and exciting chapter. I am more than confident that he will be successful in whatever he chooses to do, and those who are fortunate enough to have his support and tutoring--especially for the MCAT--will be better for it.
I can't say enough good things about Jeffrey G. as a physics tutor.
I don't know anything about the subject, and certainly had my reservations about finding a tutor off a website, but my high school junior is now back on top of a course she struggled in this year. And we have Jeff to thank for that.
Junior year is anxiety central for most students, as these the are grades most colleges focus on. Physics may have been a challenge, but the added pressure of keeping the GPA in the clouds only exacerbated the problem. Jeff, first and foremost, came in and allayed my daughter's fears by listening to her describe where she needed extra clarity. He reviewed the topics she was struggling with and managed to explain them and work through them in a way she never heard at school. You could see with every session she was building up her strength in the subject as well as her confidence.
Jeff was always on time and always came prepared. My daughter would text him the topics she wanted to review before every session so they were ready to get to work as soon as he arrived. He was extremely professional, always encouraging my daughter to text him anytime she had a physics question.
I would highly recommend Jeff as a tutor. He clearly knows his stuff, and he knows how to explain it in a manner that clicks.
Jeffrey G. was so much more than we could have ever expected! What an outstanding gentleman, who KNOWS HIS STUFF... I must advise everyone reading this review, "If you choose a tutor for Organic Chemistry, other than Jeffrey, you just walked away from the FINEST TUTOR EVER... Jeffrey is tutoring my college age son in Organic Chemistry and has made my son feel 200% confident in learning! JEFFREY G. ROCKS... Our family will continue to utilize Jeffrey for tutoring, for all three of our sons because Jeffrey is absolutely amazing!!! I have already provided Jeffrey's WyzAnt information to a few family members and friends because I am GINORMOUSLY impressed with Jeffrey. I must add, I think Jeffrey's fee of $65.00 an hour is a joke!!! I would pay Jeffrey $1,000 an hour if I could afford to do it. Jeffrey is an "Absolute Blessing In Disguise"! PERIOD... Trust me, you will not be disappointed... Jeffrey is the real deal from head to toe!!! Shane and I take our hats off to Jeffrey! I do not know where our family would be if we did not find Jeffrey on WyzAnt! Now, send Jeffrey an email and get started with him on WyzAnt!!!
Jeffrey was the first tutor in my college career of a Biology major. I tend to study the material intensively on my own; however, Organic Chemistry was not that easy, especially with a professor who is not capable of teaching it well enough. Thus, Jeff was able to identify my position in understanding the concepts of this science and helped me to improve upon it. With every topic that I needed help with, he first understood my perception and then modified it with examples that would allow me to understand his way of thinking as well as relate it back to mine. Additionally, he built his own system of breaking down the content in order to apply it to every problem in an organized way, so be ready to expose yourself to a completely new point of view that can alleviate your struggles!
Organic Chemistry is definitely one of those classes that intimidate the individual pre-medical student beginning the first day of one's undergraduate career. Being on that boat, I took the liberty of contacting Jeff, via WyzAnt, to schedule periodic meeting throughout the course of my third semester. Jeff was an amazing tutor that brought the concepts taught in class to life. I began to see the relevance and significance of concepts, like reaction mechanisms and chirality, as Jeff taught and, more importantly, I enjoyed the material that was being explained. I received an A- in Organic Chemistry 1 and am very content with my decision of taking Jeff as my mentor.
Jeffrey walked into the door and connected immediately with our 14 year old son. He was patient, understanding and provided numerous useful tips on how to navigate physics. My son was delighted with the results and is looking forward to using Jeffrey again. I highly recommend Jeffrey.
I truly gained a lot from having Jeffrey as a tutor before my physics final! He has a way of explaining things really clearly in terms that are easy to understand and apply when problem solving. Jeffrey was patient and helped me feel confident in my problem solving skills enough to cover a large range of material in a short amount of time. Jeffrey also made himself so readily available, even taking questions via email/phone when I had specific questions before my exam! He truly went above and beyond as a tutor to help me gain as much as possible and succeed at a course which was challenging for me. I would highly recommend Jeffrey to any college student taking physics-- you will not regret it!
Jeff is one of the best tutors I have had! He is very knowledgeable and patient. He has great pneumonics for difficult topics that have helped me through my courses. He centers each lesson around what the student needs that day and is very flexible! I had Jeff for anatomy and physiology and microbiology, and I got an A in both classes! Jeff is just awesome, and I would definitely recommend him!
Jeffrey has worked with my 14 year old son on a number of occasions for exam preparation. He is a kind and patient teacher who pays attention to detail. When planning lessons, communication is clear and easy. Jeffrey likes to be well-prepared. My son is very grateful to have worked with him as he shows a true interest in his success. We look forward to working with him in the future.
Jeff is tutoring my twin boys in Chemistry and Physics. Jeff is a very patient, intelligent, and great tutor. He knows his subjects and knows how to teach and make my boys understand Chemistry concepts and Physics problems. I would recommend Jeff to anyone who needs help with the subjects he teaches. 5 starts!!!! Thanks, Jeff.
Jeffrey is down to earth, very patient and extremely intelligent. He used a variety of different methods to help me learn Anatomy of the Bones in a way I was unable to on my own. He was able to extend his time without any issue. Jeffrey is very knowledgeable and very helpful in teaching me ways to remember ridiculous names of the bones and where they were located. Never had a better tutor. If you need help with science or anything related to anatomy and physiology, you can't get a better teacher. 5 stars!!
Jeff is a great tutor who forces you to actually do the thinking on your own! I have high hopes for this first time tutoring experience.
I had several questions about ACT English section, and Jeffrey helped me a lot to understand some subtle details I didn't pay attention to. We went over couple of passages; Jeffrey suggested some creative solutions for questions I had most difficulties with. For example, the tutor gave me an advice to treat 'adding sentences' tasks like a lawyer! For other questions, Jeffrey shared some actual grammar rules. Anyway, at the end I was getting a 100% on my passages. I left with a better understanding of the material as Jeffrey gave me very clear explanations. Good job!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
In addition to doing well in Gross Anatomy during my first year of medical school, I also spent last summer working as a Gross Anatomy tutor, helping teach a cohort of Physician Assistant students and Physical Therapy students. I love the material and have come up with tons of systems and mnemonics to help students master this enormous amount of material. If you find yourself struggling in this subject, I would love to work with you so you can accomplish your goals.
I have extensive experience tutoring Biology at both the undergraduate and high school level. During my post baccalaureate course work, I received the third highest grade in my Biology course out of a class of roughly 400 students. Additionally, I received a 5 on my AP Biology exam (the highest grade possible) in high school. As a medical student, I have taken several additional courses that touch on different aspects of Biology (e.g. Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, and Microbiology). These courses have deepened my understanding of Biological mechanisms and I take great pride in making these concepts interesting to my students. Studying biology can be a dull experience, or it can be fun and illuminating.
I took two semesters of General Chemistry during my Post-Bacc program and attained a grade of A+ in both. General chemistry is a subject where a tutor can make all the difference. With the proper instruction, difficult concepts become easy and the math problems can actually be, dare I say it, enjoyable.
I completed a post-baccalaureate program at Hunter College, where I received a GPA of 4.0 after having completed all the pre-requisite courses that are tested by the MCAT. This includes non-calculus Physics, General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, and Biology. I have tutored Hunter students in Biology, Physics, and Organic Chemistry. I took the MCAT exam in 2011 and received a composite score of 35. My two years spent in Medical School at SUNY Downstate College of Medicine have also strengthened my understanding of many of the ideas tested by the exam.
I completed two semesters of Organic + Lab Chemistry at Hunter College, and achieved an A for both semesters. I have also taught elements of Organic Chemistry to students at Hunter College. I also took the MCAT, an exam with an Organic Chemistry component, and received a cumulative score of 35.
I received a A in both my Physics 1 and Physics 2 courses. I have been tutoring physics for several years and enjoy simplifying these difficult concepts.
