Northwestern University (Theater)
Hello! My name is Harry. I graduated from Northwestern University in 2008 with a a 4.2 GPA and BA from the School of Communications and a degree in theater. Since then, I have worked as an SAT and test prep tutor for the Protesters, a tutoring company based in Brooklyn; as a museum educator at the Rubin museum, where I lead gallery experiences and teach workshops to school groups of all ages; and traveled regularly to India where I study Tibetan language and teach English. I also currently work for the Rubin Foundation, where I am contracted as an editor and developer for several of their online educational resources.
My specialty is in SAT test prep, English, world history (with broad knowledge of religious history and the silk route) and sociology; I am also able to tutor any subject K-8, have experience with special-needs populations and those who speak English as a second language. I received a perfect score on my verbal portion of the SAT, and have been trained in various test-taking strategies through my work with the Protesters, a Brooklyn-based test prep company. Through my career in museum education, I have worked with students ranging from kindergarten through university levels, crafting and implementing specially designed curriculum and in-gallery experiences relating our museum exhibits with the social sciences, English, and math. Additionally, I am a professional singer and theater coach, and am available for voice lessons, sight singing, audition coaching, and individual theater training, and am versed in several mindfulness techniques that improve stress reduction and memory.
I have a passion for education, and I truly enjoy the process of designing programs to meet the individual needs of each student. Through my work, I have become familiar with the current trends of educational pedagogy and the way different teaching strategies (visual, kinesthetic, or auditory) that work differently for individual learners. For me, one of the greatest joys of education is the creativity involved in shaping lessons for each student's individual needs.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
