I am a graduate of Harvard University and a native New Yorker who has been tutoring students of all ages in everything from standardized tests to Spanish to Math to songwriting for over seven years. Hey there! I am a graduate of Harvard University and a native New Yorker who has been tutoring students of all ages in everything from standardized tests to Spanish to Math to songwriting for over seven years. The SAT and other middle school and high school level standardized tests are a specialty of mine, and I love helping students discover all the tips and tricks necessary to getting their dream score. I spent a year teaching for an online test prep and adaptive learning company and many years teaching students from all walks of life to give them a real edge over other test takers. I am a huge language nerd and love helping my students to master English and Spanish for conversation, class work or standardized tests. Math is another subject I love to unlock with my students, who have seen dramatic improvements in their skills after working with me.

I enjoy working with students of all ages and have worked with everyone from third graders to college students to adults. My students love their lessons with me because I am personable, knowledgeable, funny and fun to work with. I inspire my students to think positively about themselves, their abilities, and their academic work, and in turn, they begin to believe in themselves and do better in school and on standardized tests. I believe education is a gift to be enjoyed, and I make learning fun and rewarding, as it should be.

I have met and interviewed many students applying to Harvard over the last several years, so I am well versed in both the existing competition for coveted spots at elite universities, as well as proper and successful self-presentation for college interviews. I believe that every student's top priority should be finding the college that will be the best fit for his/her personality and career/education aspirations. I can help students to evaluate what matters most to them in terms of academics, extracurricular activities, location, culture, and career preparation, and narrow down their list of schools to one that contains the best options for them. Then, I will work with my students to hone their self presentation and interviewing skills, and make sure their application reflects who they really are in the best possible light. Even better than the first session!

My daughter described her second session with JC as "incredible." The first was really good, but she said that so many aspects of the mathematical operations (7th grade math) just really gelled for her in this session. For a child who was at risk of failing math, this has been a real breakthrough.

Little time, big results

My kid had to take a standardized test on very short notice, and much of the math hadn't even been covered in school. In just six sessions, JC used a combination of patience, empathy and deep knowledge to get my kid up to speed and ready to roll. More than ready, actually -- she went from "whoa" on the practice tests to "wow" on the real one. We'll definitely be back when SAT season rolls around, and even before then for general tutoring and keeping up in class. Thanks JC!

Cancellation of lesson

I made a mistake to book this appointment before the lesson, later on we found it's way to far to travel from Queens to Manhattan for only a one hour lesson. We have been also charged a $120 cancellation fee for this. It's another mistake that I didn't realize there was a $120 cancellation fee charge. Anyway, it's an experience and it is over.

Talk about results!

My daughter is a wiz w/straight As at a tough private school. She wasn't doing great on standardized tests. I'd hired a tutor from a well-known company and his methods were so complicated and arcane she dreaded each session. When she took a practice test after months of work w/tutor she bombed it. Then we found JC C. Amen. JC worked w/my daughter for 6 wks, she took the entrance test for real and hit it out of the park-so well that her school said she wouldn't need to take another one for admission at the very top schools. We are so grateful for how she's taught our daughter the skills to ace any test. THE BEST!!

Great tutor

Very patient and knowledgeable. Both my kids like JC a lot. Would recommend her. She takes the time needed and the kids have confidence in her because she has been to the best schools. That is not to be discounted. Kids, as they get closer to college, are aware of such! She is excellent.

Amazing tutor!

JC has tutored our sons on test prep for the SHSAT, SSAT and SAT, respectively. She is brilliant at breaking down the approach the kids should take to solve each Math problem and tackle the verbal sections. She is also very patient and has a sense of humor. Best Tutor for SAT Prep

I have been seeing JC for a few months for SAT Prep, and she has been the best tutor that I have ever had. She is very knowledgeable about the SAT and will provide great insight and strategies for the test itself.
