Hi, I’m Shelly! I graduated from Stony Brook University with a bachelor’s degree in Health Science and am currently pursuing my master’s in Biomedical Sciences at Rutgers University, where I earned all A’s in my first semester. My coursework includes biochemistry, physiology, cellular pathology, and oral biology. I also participate in laboratory research, which helps me connect science concepts to practical examples. My background prepares me to support students in biology, anatomy and physiology, and developing effective study habits.
Alongside graduate school, I work as a pediatric dental assistant. Working with children has helped me develop patience, communicate clearly, and help someone feel comfortable when they are nervous or unsure. I would bring that same supportive approach to tutoring, giving students space to ask questions and work through concepts at their own pace.
My tutoring approach would focus on understanding the material and learning how to apply it. During lessons, we would identify areas of confusion, break topics into manageable steps, and use diagrams, everyday examples, and practice questions to build understanding. I would encourage students to explain concepts in their own words and use active recall to strengthen their knowledge. Whether a student needs help with homework, preparing for a test, or organizing their studying, my goal is to help them feel more confident and capable.
