I have been teaching mathematics for over 40 years and have devoted my career to helping students understand mathematics deeply and gain confidence in their abilities. I taught at Hunter College High School in New York City for 44 years and, more recently, at York Preparatory School. I have taught students in grades 7–12 in Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Precalculus, and Calculus, including AP Calculus AB and BC. I also served for approximately 20 years as an AP Calculus Reader, giving me extensive experience with the expectations and scoring of the AP Calculus examinations.
In addition to classroom teaching, I have worked one-on-one with students at many different levels. My tutoring is individualized: I first determine what a student understands and where the difficulties begin, and then I build from there. I explain concepts clearly, reinforce important skills, and use carefully chosen problems to develop understanding rather than relying on memorized procedures. I am patient and encouraging, but I also challenge students to think mathematically and become more independent problem solvers.
I particularly enjoy working with students in Algebra, Precalculus, and AP Calculus, as well as students preparing for mathematics examinations. Whether a student is struggling with a course, trying to strengthen specific skills, or aiming for a high level of achievement, I adapt each session to that student’s needs. After more than four decades of teaching, I still find it extremely rewarding to see a student reach the point where a difficult mathematical idea finally makes sense.
