Hi! I’m Alejandra, a chemical engineer, software engineer, and former educator who loves helping students make sense of technical subjects that can initially feel intimidating. I earned my B.S. in Chemical Engineering with a minor in Environmental Engineering from the University of Texas at San Antonio. My background includes calculus, chemistry, engineering mathematics, thermodynamics, scientific computing, Python, JavaScript, and applied problem solving. I also build scientific software designed to make complex engineering concepts more transparent and easier to understand.

Before working full-time in engineering and software, I spent a year as a Socratic Instructor at Acton Academy West, where I worked with students with different learning styles and levels of confidence. That experience shaped the way I teach: rather than simply giving a student an answer, I try to identify exactly where their reasoning got stuck, ask questions that reveal the missing connection, and adjust my explanation until the concept clicks. My goal is for students to understand why a solution works and feel more prepared to solve the next problem independently.

My tutoring style is patient, collaborative, and focused on understanding rather than memorization. I enjoy breaking difficult problems into manageable steps, connecting equations to intuitive examples, and helping students become stronger problem-solvers. I’m happy to work with middle school, high school, college, and adult learners in math, chemistry, chemical engineering, thermodynamics, Python, JavaScript, and related subjects. Whether you’re catching up, preparing for an exam, working through assignments, or learning something new, I’ll meet you where you are and help you build confidence from there.

Approved Subjects

Chemistry

Chemistry

I hold a B.S. in Chemical Engineering with a minor in Environmental Engineering and have a strong foundation in general chemistry, thermodynamics, stoichiometry, atomic structure, bonding, solutions, gases, and chemical equilibrium. My current work in scientific computing and chemical process simulation also involves thermodynamic modeling, vapor-liquid equilibrium, and applied chemical calculations. I can help students work through quantitative chemistry problems, understand the concepts behind equations, and build confidence with dimensional analysis and multi-step problem solving. My teaching style is patient and reasoning-focused, with an emphasis on helping students understand why a method works rather than just memorizing steps.
JavaScript

JavaScript

I use JavaScript professionally to build interactive full-stack web applications, including React-based user interfaces and frontend application logic. As the founder and lead software engineer of Equilibria Technology, I build with JavaScript, React, Vite, Zustand, React Flow, and REST APIs while integrating the frontend with a Python backend. I can help students with JavaScript fundamentals, functions, arrays, objects, control flow, debugging, DOM concepts, React, and connecting frontend code to APIs. My teaching style emphasizes understanding program behavior and problem-solving so students can write and debug code independently.
Linear Algebra

Linear Algebra

I hold a B.S. in Chemical Engineering with a minor in Environmental Engineering and use linear algebra as part of my broader work in scientific computing, numerical modeling, and engineering simulation. I can help students with systems of equations, matrices, determinants, inverses, vector spaces, bases, eigenvalues and eigenvectors, orthogonality, projections, and linear transformations. My engineering background allows me to connect abstract linear algebra concepts to practical computational and modeling applications. I focus on helping students understand the reasoning behind each method so they can solve unfamiliar problems independently.
Physics

Physics

I hold a B.S. in Chemical Engineering with a minor in Environmental Engineering and have a strong foundation in mechanics, fluids, thermodynamics, electricity, waves, and applied mathematical modeling. My current work in scientific computing and engineering simulation requires translating physical laws into quantitative models and checking results for consistency. I can help students with kinematics, forces, energy, momentum, fluids, thermodynamics, basic electricity and magnetism, waves, and multi-step physics problems. My teaching style emphasizes diagrams, units, physical intuition, and understanding why an equation applies before plugging in numbers.
Python

Python

I use Python professionally for backend development, scientific computing, numerical modeling, and AI evaluation. As the founder and lead software engineer of Equilibria Technology, I build Python/FastAPI/Pydantic systems, engineering simulation tools, APIs, validation logic, and automated test suites with 500+ passing tests. I can help students with Python fundamentals, debugging, functions, classes, data structures, object-oriented programming, APIs, testing, and applied computational problems. My teaching approach focuses on understanding how and why code works so students can become more confident solving problems independently.
Spanish

Spanish

I am fluent in both Spanish and English and can help students develop stronger speaking, reading, writing, grammar, and comprehension skills in Spanish. I have previous teaching experience as a Socratic Instructor, where I worked with students with different learning styles and adapted explanations to help concepts click. I can support beginning through advanced students with grammar, verb conjugation, vocabulary, pronunciation, conversation practice, school coursework, and exam preparation. My teaching style is patient and conversational, with an emphasis on understanding how Spanish works and becoming comfortable actually using the language.
