Hello! I am excited to guide anyone and everyone through their high school studies! Personally, I am pursuing a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and philosophy from Amherst College. I’ve shown proficiency in mathematics and English by earning a 5 in AP Calculus AB and a 4 in both AP English Literature and AP English Language, as well as a 760 on the Reading/Writing SAT and a 700 on the Math SAT. I specialize in Calculus, however I am also passionate in teaching grammar and comprehension of complex texts.

I spent 4 months as an AP English Literature teaching assistant for 11th graders at my school, improving students’ confidence, grammar, and ability to properly organize their claims and evidence in essays. I’ve also spent 2 months as a math teaching assistant for 6th-7th graders, making sure students grasp the lecture concepts through independent practice. I’ve also taught chess one-on-one and in small groups at my high school’s chess club for a year, passing down my love for chess to underclassmen. These experiences, especially the latter, have inspired me to continue educating students and peers in subjects I find personally interesting, such as math and chess.

I prefer to teach in direct instruction, a teacher-directed method in which I explicitly explain and/or illustrate the concept using graphs, mathematical/grammatical terms, and formulas before having the student test their understanding through practice questions. In SAT Reading, these would be previous SAT questions, and in math, these would be previous AP questions and other tests from online. However, I can be flexible with my methods both within direct instruction and outside of it, based on the student’s feedback.

Approved Subjects

Elementary Math

Elementary Math

Spent 2 and a half months as a teaching assistant for 6th graders in math over the summer. Worked in small groups with students who were struggling until they were able to keep up with the rest of the class. Ironed out students' skills in discerning relationships between units in word problems by labelling the key words as "groups" and "values". Reinforced knowledge in fractions and fraction multiplication to finally teach students about unit rates using examples such as recipes and car travel.
SAT Reading

SAT Reading

I've shown proficiency in English, scoring a 760 on the Reading/Writing SAT and earning a 4 in AP English Language and AP English Literature. I specialize in reading comprehension, grasping the author's overall purpose and which rhetorical devices they use to convey that purpose. I've spent 4 months tutoring 11th graders in AP Literature, helping them learn multiple rhetorical devices and how to synthesize them to find the author's main claims. Contextualizing individual paragraphs with the rest of the text is a key aspect of the SAT Reading portion that I love doing and teaching.
