I am a second-year Ph.D. student at New York University studying Biological Anthropology, with a research focus on the immune system in ovarian cancer. I hold bachelor's degrees in Genetics and Chinese from Rutgers University, where I graduated cum laude with a 3.7 GPA and minored in Evolutionary Anthropology. I also spent five years conducting cancer research at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, developing extensive molecular biology and wet-lab experience. My work has contributed to publications in journals including Nature and Cell, giving me particularly strong expertise in genetics, biology, molecular biology, cell biology, and cancer biology.

I have over six years of tutoring experience, beginning in high school and continuing through college. Through Math, Science, and Chinese Honor Societies, I worked primarily one-on-one with students ages 12–18, helping them improve grades, prepare for exams, and develop stronger understanding of difficult concepts. I have tutored Chinese, biology, genetics, chemistry, and mathematics in both classroom and individual settings. I am currently a Teaching Assistant for an undergraduate Emerging Diseases course at NYU covering microbiology, ecology, evolution, biological anthropology, and public health. My teaching approach is individualized and emphasizes understanding over memorization, using explanations and guided practice to help students develop independent problem-solving skills.

I have also studied Mandarin since age 12 and majored in Chinese at Rutgers. I studied abroad at Beijing Language and Culture University and have traveled to China multiple times. I have primarily tutored beginner and intermediate students in pronunciation, conversation, grammar, reading, writing, and vocabulary, while incorporating Chinese culture and contemporary language use into lessons. I enjoy adapting lessons to each student's goals and helping students become more confident and independent learners.

Approved Subjects

Anthropology

Anthropology

I minored in Evolutionary Anthropology in undergrad, and I'm currently studying Biological Anthropology with a focus on ovarian cancer. I am well-versed in all biological anthropology topics and some archaeology topics. I hold a TA position at NYU where I regularly teach undergraduate students on introductory topics in biological anthropology and medical anthropology.
Biology

Biology

I have always had a passion for biology; I "APed out" of Biology in college, and went on to major in Genetics with a minor in Evolutionary Anthropology. I have tutored many middle school and high school students in biology topics, and I continue to do so in my Course Assistant position at NYU. I worked in cancer research for 5+ years at Memorial Sloan Kettering, and I currently am pursuing my PhD in Biological Anthropology at NYU.
Chinese

Chinese

I have studied Mandarin Chinese since age 12, and I even majored in Chinese in undergrad. I have been to China several times, including a study abroad trip where I strengthened my language skills significantly. I have tutored middle school and high school students in Chinese language, and I continue to practice Chinese today with my Chinese friends and teachers.
Handwriting

Handwriting

Despite technological advances in recent years, I still strongly prefer a pen and paper for all 'thinking' exercises. From a young age, I've always excelled at handwriting; however, having an autistic brother has helped me to understand that handwriting is not universally 'easy,' and in fact, it can be a source of shame for many students. Rest assured that I will always maintain an encouraging attitude with my students and provide a safe space for expression. We will figure it out together - I promise!
Italian

Italian

Born into an Egyptian-Italian family, I have enjoyed a strong Mediterranean influence my entire life; however, I officially began learning Italian in my 20s, and tested my skills on a month-long trip to Italy, where I explored the beautiful cities of Rome, Salerno, Naples, Lecce, Bari, Catania, Syracuse, and Palermo. I particularly love Italian folk music, and I keep in close contact with Italian friends who continue to enrich my language learning experience.
Writing

Writing

Writing has been a passion of mine which ultimately was borne from reading. After "AP-ing out" of Expository Writing in college, I continued my practice by writing poetry, short stories, and journal entries. I find that writing can be extremely therapeutic once the primary skills required are established. I would be delighted to help my students improve their writing skills and feel confident to write about any and all topics!
