I have been teaching piano for about 8 years, and have taught composition, songwriting, and given tutoring in music theory as well. My musical background is diverse, with my primary training in classical piano and composition as well as experience in performing jazz, alt/rock music, and writing music across multiple genres. I received my undergraduate degree in music composition from UCLA's Herb Alpert School of Music in 2023 and my master's degree in music composition from Mannes at The New School in 2025. I have also received numerous awards, scholarship and commissions for classical compositions. In 2024 I was part of Soli's 30x30x30 commissioning project, in 2025 I participated in Albany Symphony's Orchestral Composition Workshop, and I received scholarship at both my undergraduate and graduate institutions.
I have taught private piano students of all ages in both classical and jazz, as a private freelance teacher and most recently through Lumina Piano School as an Independent Contractor. These students came from many different backgrounds and had diverse learning goals and intentions, and I was happy to accommodate them and work towards a lesson plan that would be productive and rewarding for them. I have also tutored students from elementary school to college age in music theory and jazz theory, in order to help them improve their grades in college courses, gain insight into music they were performing, and prepare for AP exams. I have additionally taught music notation software such as Dorico and Sibelius to students who are interested in writing music, transcribing existing pieces and engraving. I have done all of this teaching one-on-one, so I am really comfortable in that format and feel as though I can get a lot out of the time me my students spend working together.
