Bio

I am a NY State certified teacher with an MA in English Language Arts from Bard College and 10 years of experience teaching grades 6–12. I scored above 700 on the verbal SAT and have graded hundreds of Regents and State Tests, so I understand how they are evaluated.

I am a NY State certified teacher with an MA in English Language Arts from Bard College and 10 years of experience teaching grades 6–12. I scored above 700 on the verbal SAT and have graded hundreds of Regents and State Tests, so I understand how they are evaluated.

I have high expectations and don't hand out shortcuts. My students have written their way into competitive high schools and colleges.

I prep students for the SAT, AP exams, Regents, and State Tests, including AP Literature and AP Language and Composition.

My approach is specific. We drill pacing and question patterns, building the reading and writing skills each test measures. I have prepared over 100 students, most of whom gain 80–120 points from their first diagnostic.I built my own curriculum and practice materials and work fluently with the digital adaptive SAT, including Bluebook, its two-module structure, and how the second module adjusts to first-module performance. I also work with students testing under extended time and those with IEPs or 504 plans.

I also coach college and high school admissions essays. Most students can already think; the challenge is getting ideas onto the page and turning half-formed thoughts into an argument someone wants to read. That's what I teach. As a writer and playwright, I teach a craft I practice.

Approved Subjects

ACT English

ACT English

ACT English is the most improvable section on the test, and most students don't know it. It's 75 questions built on grammar and rhetoric patterns that repeat, so once you see them, you stop guessing. I teach the rules the ACT tests (commas, sentence boundaries, conciseness, transitions) as patterns, not memorization. 10 years teaching English grades 6 through 12 means I know where students trip and how to fix it fast.
ACT Reading

ACT Reading

ACT Reading isn't about how well you read, it's about how fast you find the answer. Four passages in 35 minutes and most students run out of time before they run out of ability. I teach students how to approach passages, spot the answers the first time and stop rereading. 10 years teaching literature grades 6 through 12 means I know how to build real reading speed without losing comprehension.
Creative Writing

Creative Writing

I'm an experienced writer in multiple forms including plays, short stories, poems, and screenplays. I have a comprehensive understanding of narrative structure, voice, and character development. I focus on helping writers write with purpose and intensity.
English

English

10 years teaching English grades 6 through 12 means I've seen every kind of writer, from the kid who freezes at a blank page to the one who overthinks every sentence. My goal is to get students writing clearly and reading without dread.
Essay Writing

Essay Writing

Most students don't struggle with writing, they struggle with knowing what they're trying to say. I help them find the argument first, then build the essay around it so the structure feels steady instead of forced. 10 years teaching English grades 6 through 12 means I've read thousands of student essays and know how to fix a weak thesis, a lackluster middle, or a paragraph that goes nowhere. You'll leave knowing how to plan and write an essay you can be proud to turn in.
Literature

Literature

Master's in Teaching Literature from Bard College and six years teaching English in NYC public schools, grades 6 through 12. I teach close reading, literary analysis, and the major works students encounter from middle school through college, including Fitzgerald, Hurston, Shakespeare, and Steinbeck. I help students move past plot summary to interpret theme, character, and an author's choices. My students learn to build arguments about a text and support them with evidence.
PSAT

PSAT

The PSAT is the SAT with lower stakes, which makes it the best practice run a student gets before the real thing. For juniors it also counts toward National Merit, so a strong score can turn into scholarship money. I work on the reading and writing sections the same way I'd prep the SAT, spotting question patterns and fixing the habits that cost points. 10 years teaching English grades 6 through 12 means I know how to build these skills early so the SAT feels familiar.
Reading

Reading

At an early age reading can go one of two ways: a kid either starts to love it or starts to hate it. The right support early makes all the difference. I help young readers sound out the unfamiliar, understand the story, and feel proud instead of frustrated. The goal is a reader who is excited to pick up the next book!
Regents

Regents

I hold an MA in English Language Arts education and a current New York State teaching certification. I taught high school English for five years with the New York City Department of Education, where Regents ELA preparation was central to my work. I have also scored English Regents exams, which gave me direct knowledge of the official rubrics and of what separates a passing response from a high-scoring one. My students showed significant score improvement over prior-year cohorts, and I have led professional development workshops for an entire school staff on raising test performance.
SAT Reading

I hold an MA in English Language Arts education and a current New York State teaching certification, and I scored above 700 on the verbal section of the SAT. I taught high school English for five years with the New York City Department of Education and have prepared over 100 students for the SAT, including a small-group teaching pod I ran outside of school hours. Most students gain 80 to 120 points from their first diagnostic practice exam. I built my own curriculum and practice materials, and I work fluently in the digital adaptive format: the Bluebook application, the two-module structure, and the way the second module adjusts to first-module performance. I also have substantial experience with students testing under extended-time accommodations, IEPs, and 504 plans.
