Hi, I’m Robby. I have been teaching and tutoring since 2013, and I currently teach at Brooklyn College. My background spans statistics, sociology, political science, and U.S. history, and I enjoy helping students build both confidence and real understanding in subjects that can initially feel intimidating. I am finishing my PhD in Sociology at the CUNY Graduate Center, where I also earned an M.S. in Quantitative Methods. I hold a B.A. in Psychology from Reed College. Over the years, I have worked with students in a wide range of settings, including college classrooms, one-on-one tutoring, and school-based support for elementary, middle, and high school and college students.

My strongest areas include statistics, research methods, data analysis, algebra, social science, sociology, political science, psychology, social studies, U.S. history, and academic writing. I also help students with statistical software such as Excel, SPSS, and Stata. Because of my teaching and research background, I am especially well suited to helping middle school, high school, college, and graduate students who need support with quantitative reasoning, interpreting results, research design, papers, or course assignments. I can help whether you are trying to keep up in class, prepare for an exam, improve your writing, or work through a challenging project step by step.

My teaching style is patient, supportive, and tailored to the individual student. I focus on building rapport, meeting students where they are, and breaking difficult material into manageable pieces without making students feel talked down to. I believe students learn best when they feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and practicing skills with clear guidance. My goal is not only to help you solve the problem in front of you, but also to help you become more confident and independent over time.

Data Analysis

I am a PhD candidate in sociology at the CUNY Graduate Center with advanced training in quantitative and qualitative research methods, and I have taught college-level statistics and data analysis. I have experience with survey research, experiments, interviews, observations, program evaluation, and applied research in New York City, as well as statistical analysis using real-world social science data. I help students understand the full research process, from forming research questions and organizing data to interpreting results and presenting findings clearly. I specialize in making statistics and data analysis less intimidating by breaking concepts, formulas, and software steps into clear, manageable explanations.
Essay Writing

Essay Writing

I am a PhD candidate in sociology at the CUNY Graduate Center with extensive experience teaching and tutoring students from elementary school through college. I help students strengthen essays at every stage, from understanding the assignment and developing a thesis to organizing evidence, improving paragraph structure, and revising for clarity. My background in college-level teaching, social science research, and one-on-one tutoring allows me to support students with analytical, argumentative, creative, and research-based writing. I specialize in helping students become clearer, more confident writers while keeping the work in their own voice.
Sociology

Sociology

I am a PhD candidate in sociology at the CUNY Graduate Center with advanced training in social theory, research methods, and the study of inequality, race, class, and politics. I specialize in helping students clearly understand complex sociological concepts and apply them to essays, exams, and research projects. My research focuses on economic inequality and political power, which allows me to connect course material to real-world issues in a way that makes it more intuitive and engaging. I also have extensive experience helping students improve their writing, from developing strong arguments to organizing and refining papers.
United States History

United States History

I am a PhD candidate in sociology at the CUNY Graduate Center with expertise in U.S. social, political, and economic history, including inequality, race, class, public policy, social movements, and the development of American institutions. My research examines long-term changes in American society and politics, giving me a strong foundation for helping students understand major historical themes and connect specific events to broader patterns. I help students with topics ranging from colonial America and the Constitution to industrialization, the New Deal, the Civil Rights Movement, and contemporary U.S. politics.
