I know firsthand the drawbacks of being in a classroom setting where you don't fully understand the topic and either the teacher does not have time to fully address your question or you just might be too embarrassed to keep saying you don't understand. I make it a priority to make sure someone truly understands the basic principles before moving on. I also emphasize that no question is "stupid" or worth glancing over because these issues only snowball later on. Using real world analogies have also been a major part of helping my students solve questions that at first seem confusing.
