Hi! I’m Jelle, and I recently finished my PhD in Biological Engineering at MIT. After going through the full grad school process myself—from choosing where to apply all the way through interviews—I know how confusing and high-pressure it can feel. Hi! I’m Jelle, and I recently finished my PhD in Biological Engineering at MIT. After going through the full grad school process myself—from choosing where to apply all the way through interviews—I know how confusing and high-pressure it can feel. During my PhD, I found that I enjoyed helping other applicants through the process, and I'm happy to offer broader services in the area now.
I’ve mentored prospective applicants through the MIT Biological Engineering Application Assistance Program (BEAAP), working one-on-one with students from a wide range of, and especially disadvantaged, backgrounds. Together, we’ve worked on everything from school selection to personal statements to interview prep. Students I’ve worked with have earned acceptances to programs at MIT, Harvard, Yale, Caltech, Oxford, Imperial, Penn State, Carnegie Mellon, NYU, Boston University, and others. Alongside this, I spent several years as a Fellow and Senior Fellow at the MIT Communication Lab, where I coached over 50 students on writing and communication—everything from grad school applications to research papers and presentations—and also led workshops for larger groups.
My approach is collaborative, practical, and encouraging. I like to break the process down into something manageable, and help you figure out what actually makes you stand out rather than relying on generic advice. We’ll work together to build a clear, compelling narrative across your application, and I’ll help you feel confident talking about your work and your goals. I can help demystify the process - please let me know how I can help you!
