Hi, I am Dina. I went to Cornell for undergrad, where I graduated magna cum laude with a double major in Government and English, and later earned an M.A. in Anthropology from Harvard.
I have been teaching and tutoring in various forms for most of my adult life. All four years at Cornell, I worked as a writing tutor in the university's walk-in writing centers, meeting one-on-one with students across many disciplines to review drafts, talk through ideas, and give feedback on their writing. I also worked as a Teaching Assistant at both Cornell and Harvard for courses ranging from creative writing and literature to environmental studies and public health. Those roles involved a great deal of direct student contact: facilitating discussions, grading work, giving written feedback, and meeting with students individually during office hours. That experience taught me how important it is to tailor feedback to the particular student in front of you, and how much progress students make when complex ideas are explained clearly and paired with honest, constructive encouragement.
More recently, I have taught English to adult asylum seekers in New York City and worked as an environmental educator for children at a public learning center. Those experiences pushed me to think carefully about how to explain ideas clearly across very different ages, backgrounds, and learning contexts.
In addition to my extensive knowledge and teaching experience in English, social studies, and writing, I also completed a rigorous math curriculum through multivariable calculus in high school, and I am comfortable tutoring algebra, geometry, precalculus, and calculus.
I am happy to develop individualized lesson plans, work through current assignments, or help students prepare for specific goals. Feel free to reach out to discuss your child's needs or to schedule a lesson.
