Hello, my name is Jocelyn, and I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a minor in Speech-Language Pathology. I am a bilingual (English/Spanish) educator with over 10 years of experience working in the New York City Department of Education as a paraprofessional supporting students with special needs. I was also accepted into the highly competitive NYC Teaching Fellows program in Summer 2025. My background combines academic training in language development with extensive hands-on classroom experience. I have worked closely with students in grades K–9 to strengthen reading comprehension, writing skills, phonemic awareness, and overall literacy development.
With a background in speech-language principles, I support students in strengthening foundational literacy skills, including phonemic awareness, word structure, vocabulary development, and reading comprehension. My goal is to help students build skills that transfer across grade levels and subject areas. My teaching method is structured, patient, and individualized. I use step-by-step instruction, guided practice, and ongoing feedback to ensure students truly understand concepts before moving forward. Lessons are tailored to each student’s grade level, learning style, and goals, with an emphasis on building both skill mastery and academic confidence.
I offer a free consultation to discuss your goals and ensure we’re a good fit. I require a 6-hour cancellation notice for scheduled sessions, and all policies will be reviewed by email prior to beginning lessons. If you’re looking for a supportive, organized tutor who values clarity, consistency, and student growth, I would love to connect. Please feel free to reach out to schedule a lesson or ask any questions.
