I have taught students of all ages and abilities, including neurodivergent individuals. I employ a holistic methodology and emphasize music theory and ear training for all of my students. In piano lessons, I focus on proper classical technique, while aiming to meet student interests and be flexible with what music we're learning. Theory and ear training were some of my favorite subjects in college and I love helping students expand their knowledge there.

In addition to piano, I play guitar and harp, and I also sing. Being a well-rounded musician myself allows me to support my students in doing the same.

Approved Subjects

Ear Training

Ear Training

As part of my BFA, I took 4 levels of musicianship/ear training courses. I personally pride myself on having a strong ear and always incorporate ear training into the lessons I teach. I am able to support students in the basics (interval training, vocal imitation) as well as more advanced ear training/dictations.
General Music

General Music

I completed my music therapy internship in a public school setting, where I was required to teach general music education classes at the elementary school level in addition to providing music therapy services. As a well-rounded musician with awareness of developmental music skills, I am able to provide general music support for children at the elementary and middle school level.
Music History

Music History

As part of my BFA, I was required to complete coursework in music history. I took courses in classical music history from early music up through 20th century music, and also took courses in contemporary American music and folk traditions. I am familiar with the format of music history exams and can provide study support.
Sight Singing

Sight Singing

I have sung in choirs many times, starting when I was in elementary school, and have often been required to sight-sing new music. As part of my ear training requirement during my undergraduate program, I was also expected to sight-sing. I often incorporate sight-singing in instrumental music lessons as I have found it helps students increase their understanding of written musical notation. I am most comfortable with the moveable Do system, but have worked a bit with fixed Do as well.
