Hi! I'm Helena, a tutor with a dual B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania in both Philosophy, Politics, & Economics (PPE) and English. I have over two years of experience helping students succeed in essay and creative writing, personal statements, Spanish, and SAT preparation. I’m passionate about creating individualized plans tailored to each student’s strengths and learning style. At UPenn, I graduated Magna Cum Laude, was inducted into the National Political Honor Society and the Cipactli Hispanic Honors Society, and received honors for my senior thesis. I worked with students both privately and as a volunteer tutor in West Philadelphia schools, gaining experience tutoring across a wide range of academic levels. In high school, I scored in the top 99th percentile on the SAT. I bring this academic background into my tutoring by helping my students cultivate strong foundations, develop study habits that stick, and approach learning with curiosity.

My experiences tutoring a wide range of students (high school SAT, college grant applications, ESL learners) allow me to build a truly customized experience that meets each student where they are. As someone who recently graduated from college, I know how stressful standardized tests and essays can be. I focus on breaking down complex concepts into clear, manageable strategies.

Outside of tutoring, I currently work in corporate retail within the luxury fashion industry, where attention to detail and collaboration are essential. I hold myself to the highest standard in everything I do, and am excited to bring that same level of care and motivation to my students! I also create tailored strategies for students to ace this portion, including time-management and testing tips. I want my student to not only understand why an answer is correct, but learn the reasoning behind it so they can master every question!

I started my music career at the age of 5, studying with Inna Eyzerovich of the Moscow Conservatory. I continued on to study with other distinguished teachers, such as Emil Chudnovsky, Adela Pena, and Lee Snyder. I was a member of the Pennsylvania Youth Orchestra, concertmaster of the DC Youth Orchestra, and concertmaster of the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra. I earned scholarships for summer study at the Juilliard Institute of Music and the Curtis Institute of Music, as well as was a Philadelphia Music Alliance for Youth scholarship recipient. I have played solo with multiple orchestras and won state and local competitions. I have taught violin since age 15, and have a technique and discipline driven approach. I make sure to build my students' confidence through each step of learning an instrument, from scales to etudes to concertos. I also focus on the joy that music can bring as a force of inspiration and artistic expression.
