I bring a strong blend of academic training and real-world experience to my teaching, supported by a Master of Music degree from DePaul University with a focus in Jazz Performance. My musical foundation was shaped through years of study with master drummers such as Joe Farnsworth, Dana Hall, Isaiah Spencer, and Mikel Patrick Avery. With more than twenty years of performing across jazz, rock, classical, and gospel settings—and experience recording and performing with jazz pianist Anthony Wonsey—I draw on a wide range of professional insights that I enjoy sharing with students.
My teaching background includes over six years as a drum and piano instructor at Allegro Music Center in Park Ridge, Illinois, where I worked one-on-one with students of different ages and ability levels. I developed individualized lesson plans based on each student’s goals and learning style, communicated regularly with parents, and tracked progress to keep students motivated. During my time there, I maintained a 95% retention rate by building strong relationships, adapting lessons as students grew, and helping them explore advanced programs and workshops when they were ready.
As a tutor, I focus on creating a supportive and engaging environment where students feel encouraged to develop both their technique and their creativity. My approach is patient, goal-oriented, and rooted in helping each student discover their own musical voice. Whether someone is picking up an instrument for the first time or preparing for more advanced challenges, I aim to guide them with clarity, enthusiasm, and a deep respect for the learning process.
