Hi there, my name is Jose and I am an experienced performance coach and communications specialist looking to build better students, by understanding them better. My approach is people-focused and built on the philosophy that great communication is about developing dynamic comprehension skills that enable us to engage with ease, patience, and confidence.
As a classically trained actor, my acting experience is rooted in a systematic approach to script work and healthy workflow. I help students install manageable techniques to understand the core "wants and desires" of a character to deliver a truthful, compelling performance. As a natural public speaker, I specialize in helping students and professionals find their authentic voice. My curriculum is strategically designed for anyone who deals with shyness or performance anxiety, focusing on both "prep and performance." We work on everything from structuring a big-picture argument to designing complementary presentations, turning nervousness into excitement and leading to an effective performance.
My approach to the SAT Writing section is unique. Using "storytelling logic," I help students understand the section as a test of clarity, structure, and rules. I teach students how to identify the patterns behind the questions and design an argument, making it a simple, repeatable process. For several years, I have worked with students one-on-one and in small groups, focusing on building their confidence. My very first job was as a performer and educator with a dynamic academic performance improvement company. For three years I traveled all across NYC teaching Study Skills, Advanced Placement Test Prep, and more to hundreds of students (between 4th & 12th grade). This has given me a deep understanding of how to adapt my approach to each student's unique learning style, whether they are a 13-year-old preparing for a class presentation or a 17-year-old writing their college essay.
