Hello! My name is Cherie. I majored in statistics in college and hold a Masters degree in Biostatistics. I scored in top 3% on the GRE. I specialize in helping high school and college students master subjects related to making decisions with data, with particular expertise in statistical methodologies.
My first official tutoring experience was as a Teaching Assistant for Foundations of statistics in college. I taught over 20 sessions, and thoroughly enjoyed helping students review lecture learning in small group review sessions, and providing one-on-one support for homework and test preparation. I subsequently coached junior team members on analysis of drug safety and efficacy, teaching them how to apply statistical methodologies with coding. I also worked in corporate digital marketing to translate business questions into statistical problems and communicate the results to non-technical audiences.
Choosing me as a tutor means working with someone who not only have solid knowledge on foundational topics, but also have rich practical experience with applying these concepts in science and business. I supplement explanations to abstract concepts with real-world examples and contexts, with the goal of building confidence for problem-solving, and help students see statistics as a powerful tool beyond the classroom.
I offer help across a wide range of topics, including but not limited to the following areas:
Statistical tests and procedures: when and how to apply different methods
Descriptive statistics: Mean, Median, variance, Standard Deviation, Exploratory data analysis
Probability theories: Combinatorics, distributions, conditional probability, Bayes’ Theorems
Inferential Statistics: Hypothesis testing, confidence intervals, chi-square tests, ANOVA,Non-parametric tests, sampling methods and estimation, power and sample size calculation
Survival Analysis: cox-proportional hazard models, Kaplan-Meier curves
Statistical programming in Python: PANDAS, NUMPY, visualization, modeling packages
