About me

I am a NYS licensed professional environmental engineer having passed both parts of the professional engineering licensure exam. I have been working in the environmental engineering and regulatory compliance field since I graduated Columbia University School of Engineering in 1987. I also have a degree in Chemistry and a Juris Doctor. I had a 1350 combined SAT score (690 English and 660 Math).

My work requires me to work with mathematics and scientific principles on a daily basis. While doing this full time, I have also found the time to teach and tutor high school students. I taught an after school course in remedial mathematics to get students back up to grade level in Algebra.

I also tutored high school students in math and chemistry after work hours. It was very gratifying to me when I was called upon to tutor 2 high school juniors who were failing chemistry and in danger of getting a failing grade on the upcoming Chemistry regent. With only 2 months until the reagent, I spent several hours each week reviewing subjects in Chemistry and doing problems with them. I also showed them how to handle chemistry problems on their own. They both ended up upping their scores by over 30 points from where they were before and passing the regent exams.

Aside from high school students who were having difficulties, I have 4 of my own children who I tutored in various math and science courses while they attended high school. They all passed their reagent exams and graduated high school and from there graduated college with honors. My youngest son went on the graduate Columbia College and then medical school and is now an intern at a hospital.

My expertise is teaching students a way to approach problems so when faced with a problem they have never seen before, they can work through the facts they were given and solve the problem. I taught them to look at a problem not as something horrifying or incredibly difficult but as a game and how to look for clues to get to the answer.
