Hi! My name is Emily and I'm a recent graduate of Kenyon College with a B.A. in English and Drama. I graduated cum laude with distinction in my Drama degree and was awarded various accolades for my academic performance. I grew up in North Carolina, where I discovered my love for the arts, the outdoors, and--of course--writing. In high school, I took AP Language and Composition and AP Literature, both of which compelled me to pursue a career in writing. And when my younger sisters took these same classes, they would ask me to edit their essays and assist them in brainstorming their ideas. When I got to Kenyon (a place known as "The Writer's College"), I joined The Kenyon Collegiate to write, edit, and distribute a satirical newspaper across campus. I also became a member of The Fools on the Hill: an improv comedy group that taught me how to collaborate and exercise my imagination. As a leader of both The Fools and the Collegiate, I enjoyed working with my peers and mentoring younger students.
When I find myself in a leadership position, I always look to identify and serve the needs of whoever I'm collaborating with. I excel in working with others, patience, creativity, and detail orientation. My tutoring style is collaborative, encouraging, and focused. I know how to spark ideas in others and help guide them to using their voices eloquently. Additionally, I have experience working with children and teens with mental and physical disabilities in workshop settings, such as museum exploration, arts and crafts, and storytelling.
As someone who received tutoring when I was working on college essays and exams, I can't speak highly enough about my experience. One-on-one sessions allow for students to speak and work through their ideas, collaborate in an encouraging environment, and watch their full potential come to fruition. I'm excited about the opportunity to work with students and watch them shine!
