Bio

Hello, I’m Patrick! In my 10+ years of tutoring, I’ve helped college students get into prestigious MFA programs; I’ve critiqued and edited fiction manuscripts and Ph.D. dissertations; and I’ve helped elementary students develop a love for storytelling (and improve their grammar and spelling along the way!). I work with all ages, helping learners find their way into the passion and curiosity for language that drives the deepest learning.

I’m a graduate of NYU’s MFA program , where I studied with Joyce Carol Oates and Jonathan Safran Foer. My fiction and poetry have been published in over a dozen literary magazines, as well as Penguin Canada’s Journey Prize Anthology and the Red Moon Anthology of English-Language Haiku. My special love is for science fiction and fantasy, and I am also a graduate of the Clarion Writer’s Workshop, the world’s premier training ground for speculative authors.

I have taught creative writing at NYU, as well as fiction masterclasses through Accent Academy. Along with mentoring students in fiction writing, I enjoy helping students build skills in essay writing and narrative non-fiction, a role I once occupied as Editor-in-Chief of my university newspaper. Currently I work at Polygence as a Mentor and Writing Fellow.

I will be your guide and companion through all stages of your writing process! I look forward to helping you achieve your particular voice and vision.

Creative Writing

Creative Writing

I’ve published fiction and poetry in dozens of venues, including Penguin Canada’s Journey Prize Anthology and the Red Moon Anthology of English-Language Haiku. I helped critique and edit two recent works of published fiction, and appear in the acknowledgments: Sanjena Sathian’s Gold Diggers, and Zachary Williams’ Beautiful Days, which appeared on Obama’s summer reading list. I taught an Introduction to Creative Writing course at New York University. I taught a creative writing course (“Being a Reader, Becoming a Writer”) at the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth. Currently, I mentor students in fiction writing and teach fiction master classes through the Accent Academy.
Essay Writing

Essay Writing

I have a natural affinity for essay writing. As an undergraduate, I won first place in the R. Allan Killen Essay Competition and collected a cash prize of $700 for an essay on Milton’s Satan. I use the skills I built through my own B.A. in English Literature and my graduate work in theology, as well as my experience as Editor in Chief of my university paper, to guide students through their writing process. This is more necessary than ever in the age of generative AI, which, if used thoughtlessly, only disempowers writers. I will help you find your own voice in the writing process. I can also help revise, proofread, and polish your work so that you can feel proud of (maybe even surprised by) what you’ve produced.
Fiction Writing

Fiction Writing

I’ve published fiction in dozens of venues, including Aurealis, FreeFall Magazine, Mysterion and Penguin Canada’s Journey Prize Anthology. I am a graduate of the Clarion Writer’s Workshop, the world’s premier training ground for speculative authors. Currently, I mentor students in fiction writing and teach fiction master classes through the Accent Academy.
Thesis Writing

Thesis Writing

Having gone through the adventure of thesis-writing twice, I know the territory. I use the skills I built through my own B.A. in English Literature and my graduate work in theology, as well as my experience as Editor in Chief of my university paper, to guide students through their writing process. This is more necessary than ever in the age of generative AI, which, if used thoughtlessly, only disempowers writers. I will help you find your own and voice in the writing process. I can also help revise, proofread, and polish your work so that you can feel proud of (maybe even surprised by) what you’ve produced.
Writing

Writing

I have been teaching reading and writing for over ten years, from middle schoolers to college students. I use the skills I built through my own B.A. in English Literature and my MFA in Creative Writing from NYU, as well as my experience as Editor in Chief of my university paper, to guide students through their writing process. I’m excited to meet you right where you are in your writing journey. I can support you in mapping out your essays and stories—whether that means brainstorming ideas, shaping narratives, or creating a clear plan to start your first draft. Once you’re ready to revise, I’ll help you uncover deeper insights, fine-tune pacing and structure, nail the right tone, and use storytelling techniques that draw your readers in and keep them engaged. As a fiction writer, I have published fiction and poetry in dozens of venues, including Penguin Canada’s Journey Prize Anthology and the Red Moon Anthology of English-Language Haiku. I am represented by William Morris Endeavor, the original talent agency.
