Hi there! I'm Ms. E. I'm a certified New York City teacher with a dual Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood and Childhood Education, and a Master’s degree in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages). My academic background has equipped me with deep knowledge of pedagogy, developmentally appropriate teaching practices, linguistics, literacy across disciplines, innovative instructional methods, language acquisition theory, educational policy, and the history of education.
I’ve been teaching for nearly a decade and have worked with learners of various ages and backgrounds, from young children to adults. My experience spans from classroom instruction to one-on-one tutoring both in-person and online. My teaching style is warm and nurturing, yet firm, flexible, and observant. I do my research, I develop rapport, and I truly care about each learner’s needs and goals. I model concepts clearly, use strategic scaffolding, and apply research-based methods grounded in the science of teaching.
In my sessions, I incorporate visuals, music, games, literature, and movies; whatever’s relevant and engaging to my student. Given my TESOL background, I also draw on students’ cultures, languages, and identities to help them access the formal academic language they’ll encounter in subjects like Reading, Math, Social Studies, and Science. Most importantly, I create a no-judgment zone where we’re all learners. I love learning, and I want every student I work with to enjoy the process too.
