I have been a tutor for over ten years, initially specializing in test prep (SHSAT, SAT, and GRE) as well as writing for ESL. I have taught at the college level since 2017. I received my PhD from New York University in American Studies in 2021 and tutored throughout grad school before spending two years at Brown University completing my postdoc. I am now a professor of anthropology at Duke University and am located in New York City over the summer. I am excited to get back into tutoring...
I am excited to get back into tutoring again.
My tutoring specialties are currently in two areas (1) high school, college, and graduate-level academic writing and (2) graduate admissions. For your writing, I take a listening-first approach to first understand where and how you are struggling, and identify the practical, mental, and emotional roadblocks you are experiencing. I then try to tease out your individual ideas and thoughts and help you translate and organize them into digestible, lucid prose. I am especially invested in helping first-generation and ESL students improve English writing skills. Everyone deserves to feel confident in their voice and everyone has something unique to say; they just need to figure out how to say it, which is easier said than done! I am here to help you each step of the way.
I am available to assist students with their statements of purposes for graduate applications across the humanities and social sciences. I have served on graduate admissions committees before and know the process inside and out.
