Hiya, I'm Maya! I recently graduated magna cum laude (3.8 GPA) with a Master’s in French Studies. Before that, I earned a Bachelor's (cum laude) in Film Studies with a French minor.

As an undergrad, I was nominated by faculty to serve as a student liaison for the film department and received a book prize recognizing my excellence in French. I was also awarded a fellowship to study in a competitive exchange at Sciences Po in Paris. In grad school, I received another competitive fellowship and completed my capstone project abroad.

Over time, I found that I thrive in classes that encourage students to take the lead, especially through hands-on activities like workshops and presentations. I bring this same approach to tutoring by making learning active, creative, and collaborative. My lessons simplify tough topics first, then build toward complex ideas and applications. I especially enjoy helping students apply their knowledge through mock interviews, presentations, and other real-world tasks tailored to their needs.

I have 2–3 years of experience assisting K–12 classrooms in programs focused on media arts, media literacy, bilingual education, and students' social-emotional health.

In elementary and high school classrooms, I’ve worked with groups of 10–20 students to teach skills in media production, scriptwriting, research, and critical analysis. Behind the scenes, I’ve supported annual initiatives as a grant writer generating support for programs that aim to reduce social isolation and build inclusive school communities.

Beyond academics, I enjoy many subjects such as Bible studies, fitness, travel, knitting, plant care, creative writing, dance, and career development.

I aim to model self-directed learning and support holistic, student-centered growth. Feel free to message me with questions, resources, or to schedule a session — I’ll reply as soon as possible!

Bible Studies

Bible Studies

I was raised in the Southern Baptist tradition of Christianity and have spent my life studying the Bible — first in church and currently through independent and group-based study. My approach to tutoring is rooted in both reverence for scripture and openness to questions, exploration, and spiritual growth. I help students engage with biblical texts thoughtfully, whether they're seeking personal understanding, academic support, or help preparing devotionals, papers, or presentations. I also bring warmth and insight into our sessions, making space for students to connect with scripture in ways that are both grounded and meaningful.
Essay Writing

Essay Writing

I bring over seven years of professional writing and editorial experience to my work as an essay tutor. I've supported leading faculty, public figures, national nonprofits, and small business clients in developing essays, articles, and thought leadership pieces. And I love helping students build those same skills! Whether you're writing a school paper, a personal essay, or preparing for college-level work, I offer clear, empowering support that draws from real-world writing standards. My goal is to help students level up while expressing themselves with clarity, confidence, and purpose.
Film

Film

I studied film and media at the college level and have worked professionally across writing, editing, and production. My approach blends academic rigor with a creative, story-first perspective — perfect for students exploring film theory, criticism, screenwriting, or visual storytelling. I help students analyze films critically, strengthen their writing, and express their insights with clarity and originality. Whether you're studying classic cinema or crafting your own project, I can support your learning with depth, warmth, and creative energy.

French

XXXXXXXXX: Learned French solo while being homeschooled. XXXXXXXXX: Took a placement exam for French courses and placed into Advanced Beginner courses prior to my first semester of college. Enrolled in an historic women's college. Eventually minored in French. Was an active student in the language department and clubs, resulting in being nominated by faculty to receive a book prize for Excellence in French Studies, as well as being selected to participate in a selective exchange program with Sciences Po Paris, for which I was also awarded one of my college's Laurel Fellowships to study abroad. XXXXXXXXX: Completed an accelerated and rigorous graduate program in French Studies, receiving a Master of Arts and completing a capstone research project in Paris, France.
Vocabulary

Vocabulary

I have a strong background in English and other language studies (French), with experience supporting students in building reading comprehension, conversation skills, and writing/composition skills through hands-on activities. I’ve helped young learners connect new words to real-world contexts so they not only learn definitions, but also feel confident using new terms in speech and creative writing.
