Hi! My name is Tom, and I am available for physics and mathematics tutoring over a wide range of topics and levels of difficulty. I graduated from City College of New York in 2018 with an M.S. in physics, and spent about 3 years in a physics Ph.D program at The Graduate Center in CUNY.
I've taught and tutored students in middle school, high school, undergrad, and graduate studies. As an adjunct lecturer at City College of New York, I taught recitation sections for introductory undergraduate physics in classes of up to 60 students. I also tutored students one-on-one in undergraduate electrodynamics, graded doctoral student assignments in graduate electrodynamics, and helped many students in my Ph.D cohort prepare for our qualifying exams in graduate-level classical, quantum, and statistical mechanics.
At Prep for Prep I taught high school level geometry to about 80 advanced middle school students, in 4 classes of 15 to 25 kids each. This was my favorite teaching experience and immensely rewarding - I never expected to get applause at the end of a class on proofs!
As a teacher, I always aim to spark a student's curiosity about what we're studying, to develop their confidence to ask deep questions, and to help the student to really understand on their own terms *why* the things we do in math actually work. I'm proficient in algebra, single and multi-variable calculus, vector calculus, differential equations, and linear algebra.
