Hi! I’m Tenzing, an educator, researcher, and graduate student who loves helping students build confidence and discover how they learn best. I earned my bachelor’s degree in Neuroscience and Psychology, with a minor in Anthropology, from Loyola University Chicago and my Master of Arts in Modern Tibetan Studies from Columbia University. I’m currently pursuing an M.S. in Cognitive Neuroscience at the CUNY Graduate Center, with graduation expected in May 2027. My background brings together science and the humanities, and I enjoy helping students make connections between what they’re learning and the world around them.
Since 2020, I’ve worked with students ages 6–18 through World Wise Tutoring and Educate. Radiate. Elevate, providing one-on-one tutoring and academic mentoring. My experience ranges from helping a six-year-old build reading confidence to supporting high school students through challenging coursework and college preparation. I tutor introductory and honors biology, AP Psychology, geometry, introductory calculus, and writing, as well as ISEE and HSPT preparation. At Columbia, I supported undergraduate students through individual and group tutoring as a graduate teaching assistant in Modern Tibetan History and Buddhism and Neuroscience courses. I’ve also worked as a university peer advisor and currently serve as a Scientist-in-Residence with the New York Academy of Sciences.
I want students to feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and trying again. I tailor lessons to their interests and needs, using clear explanations, guided practice, and manageable steps. My training in metacognition, executive functioning, and trauma-informed and culturally responsive teaching helps me support students with learning differences and strengthen their organization and study habits. The lasting relationships I’ve built with students are what keep me teaching. My goal is to help each student understand the material and develop the confidence and strategies to approach their next challenge independently.
