Hello students and parents!

I am a recently retired high school biology teacher with well over 25 years of teaching experience.

I have an undergraduate degree from Clark University, and an MA a well as a 5th Year Teacher's Certification degree from UVM, as well as being certified for the past 25 years through the DOE of NYC. For the past 20 years I taught at Brooklyn Tech, one of the highest rated high schools in the country. The last 10+ years I taught almost exclusively AP Biology.

My results speak for themselves: My AP Biology College Board test scores were consistently well above average compared to other science teachers at Brooklyn Tech, and so therefore consistently amongst the highest in the entire state, throughout my career. My students whom I tutored last year also achieved top marks. And let me be clear: AI chatbots such as "Ask Sia" CANNOT help students master the College Board AP exam.

More important than all of this, I have an excellent rapport with not only my colleagues and my student’s parents, but especially with the students themselves. Here are just a few quotes from my students from this past year:

"I want you to know you were a huge influence on my life. I don’t think I would have tried twice as hard as I did in your class if I didn’t feel invested in the material, and that’s all thanks to you."

"I have never had a teacher who was as compassionate, enthusiastic and upfront as yourself. I am incredibly lucky to have had you as my teacher this past year."

"I have never had a teacher that made me feel as excited to learn as you have. You even go the extra mile to make study guides for us and to make class engaging and interactive. I know for a fact that I will remember you for the rest of my life."

Biology

For the last 15+ years of my career I taught primarily AP Biology at one of the best high schools in the country, Brooklyn Technical High School. My passing and mastery rates for this exam were amongst the highest in our department year after year, hence some of the highest in the state. My teaching, and now tutoring, is focused primarily on distilling and breaking down challenging content in an understandable and engaging manner, and in mastering difficult exams. For College Board AP, for example, the student and I analyze dozens of practice questions for each unit. Let me be clear, AI chatbots such as "Ask Sia" CANNOT help students master the College Board AP exam. I tutor biology at most levels, from middle school, through high school Honors, IB or AP, and through intro college level.

Patient and knowledgable

After feeling lost in class, Scott helped me to gain a better understanding of topics. He's very friendly, patient, and willing to help. Scott has also been very accommodating by providing extra resources such as notes or practice material and is extremely responsive through Wyzant. He is also swift to reply and offers to answer any additional questions outside our lessons.

The Best Tutor- highly recommend!

Scott came highly recommended to us as our daughter was getting lost in a class that required biology. What a difference just the first session made, suddenly everything clicked for her! He was able to get her up to speed on an assignment with patience, understanding, and just enough humor to put her at ease and be able to absorb the material. Scott also went the extra mile to send her some very helpful material that we wouldn't have known to ask for, so that was great! We feel lucky to have had him recommended to us so she could start the year off on her best foot in an otherwise challenging class. I can highly recommend this tutor!
