Hi! My name is Oli. Originally from the UK but now based in the US, I’m a passionate philosophy tutor with nearly 10 years of experience teaching high school, undergraduate, and graduate students. I studied at the University of Warwick (undergraduate) and the University of Oxford (graduate) and have helped students gain admission to top programs worldwide.

Philosophy isn’t just about studying famous thinkers—it’s about developing critical thinking skills that apply to all areas of life. My approach focuses on fostering clear reasoning and deep engagement with philosophical texts. I can assist with a broad range of topics:

In Ancient Philosophy, we explore Plato, Aristotle, and Pre-Socratics like Heraclitus and Parmenides. For Classical Christian Philosophy, I cover Aquinas and Augustine. In Early Modern Philosophy, we examine Hobbes, Descartes, Spinoza, and Hume.

In Kantian and Post-Kantian Philosophy, we delve into Kant’s ideas and Hegel’s contributions. For Modern and Contemporary Philosophy, I guide students through Rousseau, Nietzsche, Marx, and Sartre.

In Moral Philosophy, we discuss ethical theories with insights from Elizabeth Anderson and Philippa Foot. Political Philosophy includes justice and governance, inspired by Rousseau, Marx, and others. Metaethics explores foundational questions about morality and ethical language.

My teaching also includes Feminist Philosophy and Philosophy of Gender, with ideas from de Beauvoir, Fricker, Frye, Haslanger, Butler, Srinivasan, and Asta. In Formal Logic and Philosophy of Logic, we study formal logic and its implications. In Philosophy of Language, we cover Wittgenstein, Grice, Chomsky, and Austin.

This list is not exhaustive. If you have specific interests or other topics in mind, please reach out to discuss how I can support your philosophical journey. If you’re ready to explore philosophy and develop your ideas, let’s start this intellectual journey together!

Logic

Logic

Formal logic (and the philosophy of logic) are core elements of the philosophy curricula I studied as an undergraduate at the University of Warwick and a graduate student at the University of Oxford. I have also studied philosophy of logic, and have taught logic for nearly 10 years. My students have been high schoolers, undergraduates, and postgraduates, and have gained places in world-leading universities with my help.
LSAT

LSAT

I achieved a 179 with careful analysis of my own performance, combining my background in critical reading and logic with acute test-taking strategy. I have taught logic, English, and philosophy for several years, and I tailor this background to the specifics of the LSAT and the needs of my student.
Philosophy

Philosophy

I have a Masters in Philosophy from Oxford and a Bachelor's in Philosophy from Warwick. I have researched and taught in many areas of philosophy, including (but not limited to) logic, epistemology, ethics, metaethics, metaphysics, philosophy of language, feminism, phenomenology, and social philosophy. My students have been high schoolers, undergraduates, and postgraduates, and have gained places in world-leading universities with my help.
Proofreading

Proofreading

I have a graduate degree from the University of Oxford in philosophy, a discipline which requires mastery of language for clear expression of complex ideas. I have proofread work for philosophy, English, linguistics, history, sociology, politics, and more. My students have been high schoolers, undergraduates, and postgraduates, and have gained places in world-leading universities with my help.

First Rate Tutor

I started working with Oliver because I always had an interest in philosophy and thought it would be rewarding to learn from someone knowledgeable about it in my free time. Very glad I did! Oliver is incredibly smart and explains complex concepts in ways that are easy to understand. He was also very down to earth and personable. All from someone who went to Oxford! If you want the best, go with Oliver.

AMAZING

Oliver is so knowledgeable about anything philosophy related. He is an amazing explainer and a really great guy. Working with Oliver was such a treat and I almost wish my class was longer so I could meet with him again.

Knowledgable, encouraging, and detailed

I had a great experience writing a paper with Oliver's help. During our discussion he took a full page of detailed notes, which was a very helpful reference when I was putting together my first draft. He asked guiding questions to encourage me to come up with my own original ideas, and then offered his own suggestions to build on my ideas and make sure I was staying true to the text as well as focused on answering the prompt. During drafting, he similarly gave me detailed feedback on my arguments and suggested other additions to improve them. He was clearly knowledgable and even messaged me after the lesson with some follow up information. Overall he was very helpful and flexible and I highly recommend working with him!

Extremely knowledgeable, helpful, and hardworking

Oliver is the best philosophy tutor I have had yet. It is clear that he has a strong mastery over a variety of subjects, and if he does not, he will make sure he is before our lesson. Moreover, he is extremely well-versed in writing philosophy papers, gives incredibly specific feedback, and goes above and beyond every time. Can't recommend Oliver enough. A very high-value tutor.
