I’ve taught writing and literature to undergraduates for over two decades; I’ve also been a college writing center tutor and, off campus, a college admissions essay writing tutor. But perhaps more importantly, for many, many years, I was a student just like you, facing the challenges of analyzing language, writing persuasive arguments, finding and evaluating legitimate research sources, composing compelling personal narratives and short responses for my college and graduate school applications and channeling my creativity into poetry and other forms of creative writing (I’ve earned a Ph.D. in English literature. I also have a B.A. in English and Spanish and an M.A.in Creative Writing).
As someone whose studies have involved working with non-primary languages, I also have particular appreciation for the strengths of students whose primary language is something other than English, as well as an understanding of the issues they face in navigating writing assignments at schools where the language of instruction is English. Your tutoring sessions with me will provide you with skills, strategies and constructive feedback to tackle these endeavors while emphasizing writing as an intellectual and creative process that will empower you to express your ideas and develop your own unique voice as a writer.
