I received my Bachelor of Science from Northwestern University, where I studied math, journalism, and political science.

I have tutored students as young as 12 and as old as 50, in math, physics, and standardized test preparation. I have also written and reported for both local and national publications, and have worked for legislators in New York and Washington, D.C.

My math background includes more than 1,000 hours of tutoring experience, spanning algebra, trigonometry, pre-calculus, and calculus. I worked for two years as a teaching assistant for Northwestern in their calculus sequence, where I graded assignments, proctored exams, led, a weekly discussion section, and held office hours. I was the champion of Connecticut College’s 2021 Integration Bee, a calculus tournament, and 2022 Math Olympiad, a proof-based tournament, and was the school's representative in the Putnam Competition.

As a TA and as a tutor, I have extensive experience in every aspect of the academic process across the fields that I teach. I know how courses progress, how exams are structured, and how work is graded.

My goal with any student is to empower you to build your own unique mental toolkit. We'll often work through an example together, and I’ll explain how I think about each step along the way. Then, once we’ve arrived at an answer, I’ll ask you to explain in your own words what we did and why we did it. That explanation becomes a written step-by-step blueprint to follow when you do the next problem.

I incorporate a variety of visual and interactive tools to keep students engaged, including a digital whiteboard that gives you permanent access to all our work, and I am always happy to send pointers and resources if you have questions between meetings.

Whether it's math, science, or testing, every problem is just a puzzle to be solved, and my goal as a tutor is to help you find your own way of solving puzzles, so that you won’t just get the right answer, but that you’ll actually be engaged and rewarded along the way.

Knowledgeable and patience tutor

Coby has been an exceptional pre-calculus tutor for my son. He consistently demonstrates remarkable patience and maintains a calm, friendly demeanor, creating a positive and engaging online learning environment. He explains complex mathematical concepts clearly and effectively, which has greatly improved my son’s understanding of the subject. He is also extremely responsive, quickly replying to messages, and is very flexible with scheduling, which we truly appreciate. We are grateful for his dedication and high-quality instruction, and we highly recommend him to any student seeking a knowledgeable and genuinely outstanding tutor.

Very knowledgeable and tutor

Coby was fantastic to work with! He reached out quickly and was very flexible in scheduling a convenient time. I sent the materials ahead of time, and he came extremely well-prepared. During the session, he covered a lot of material and shared helpful tips and tricks that my son was able to apply right away. The use of the virtual whiteboard was especially effective, it allowed my son to follow along easily, and we were able to print out the notes afterward for further review. Coby is not only very intelligent but also has a great ability to explain complex topics in a clear, easy-to-understand way. Highly recommend!

Great interaction

Coby was kind and understanding to my lack of knowledge. Never made me feel bad for not knowing things. Had great explanations and really liked the technology he used to show me how to do things.

VERY good tutor!

If I had a question, Coby always has a solution that's understandable and to the point! And his consistent level-headedness/patience is also something that deserves mention. I'll be sure to keep him in mind for the math classes to come!

Knowledgeable & great communicator

Coby worked with both my kids and was extremely helpful and supportive. He's also prompt with responses and always follows up, which is not my experience with some others we've worked with. So glad to have found him!
