Hello, I'm Brian! I grew up in the greater Los Angeles area, and I went on to graduate from Stanford University with a degree in Human Biology. I later moved to Brooklyn, NY to attend medical school at SUNY Downstate College of Medicine, where I graduated in 2022. I now work as a second-year resident physician at Kings County Hospital, where I specialize in Psychiatry. Throughout my journey in school to become a physician, from high school to now, I always sought out the opportunity to tutor and teach younger students who were along the same path. No matter the time or setting, I always enjoyed setting up a lesson plan prior to each session to ensure that my students took away concrete tools for their benefit. The greatest reward I take away in tutoring is hearing newfound confidence in my students that they utilize for their exams and much more.
Prior to starting medical school, I spent two years working as a MCAT instructor and tutor for Kaplan Test Prep, where I taught strategies to recognize and overcome the intentional obstacles placed in the exam. These were the same strategies I took advantage of to receive an MCAT score of 523 (100th percentile), and helped me in test-taking in medical school as well. At Kaplan, I taught structured test prep classes and tutored individual students in their preparation, and the curriculum I utilized consistently produces a 15-point increase in MCAT score after completion. I teach high-yield topics that consistently show up on the exam; moreover, together we will break down questions pertaining to those topics to recognize the common tendencies in questions. I find it especially gratifying to work with pre-medical students in their test prep, and I enjoyed helping them break down the exam material into smaller, more manageable parts. Personally, I know very well the anxiety that one experiences studying for this exam, and I hope to make this part of the process that much easier (and enjoyable!) for you. Feel free to contact me with questions or to schedule a session!
