Hi, I'm Daniel! I graduated Phi Beta Kappa and Pi Kappa Lambda from Oberlin Conservatory of Music with a B.M. in Electronic Music. I have always been fascinated by the intersection of sound and technology across the spectrum of various media—from podcasts to pop music to sound installations—and I bring that breadth to my teaching as well as my own work. With this interdisciplinary approach, I can help students learn to become better sonic thinkers through understanding how sound works, how sound makes us feel, and the techniques to work with it. I use a goal-oriented approach where students lessons are focused on incremental steps to achieving a student's goal. So for example, if a student wants to learn how to record and release one of their own songs, we will spend lessons going through that process (and the rabbit holes that come up as a result) step by step. Lessons with me are collaborative and hands on, and at the end of a lesson students will have things that they can work on to keep improving during the week.
Previously, I taught lessons in a similar format to students while I was in college for over a year; I have also tutored chemistry and math in college and high school, and have previous experience teaching elementary school-age guitar students as well.
I like to teach lessons in my studio, which is a fully operational recording, production, and mixing facility here in Brooklyn, which allows me and my students to get hands on in a purpose-built recording environment.
