My love for science began when I was in high school. I graduated from Brooklyn Technical High School in New York with a major in chemistry. Chemistry came very easy to me and I began tutoring students in college when I was a 17 year old freshman. I can recall the first student that I tutored. My love for science began when I was in high school. I graduated from Brooklyn Technical High School in New York with a major in chemistry. Chemistry came very easy to me and I began tutoring students in college when I was a 17 year old freshman. I can recall the first student that I tutored. He was frustrated with dimensional analysis, but when I broke it down into its fundamental concepts, he slowly managed to grasp the concept and did well in his course. That student is now a pediatrician.

Even when I started medical school, my love for tutoring did not end as I continued to help students with college chemistry. However, it wasn't until I attend law school that I fell in love with helping students prep for exams. I learned how to teach the SAT and began tutoring high school students. Shortly after that, I took an interest in helping pre medical students prepare for the MCAT and spent nearly ten years working with individuals, organizations, and medical schools to help students "beat the exam." In addition to the SAT and MCAT, I have returned to my roots and have tutored students for the new SHSAT for NYC specialized high schools.

It is my mission to show students that no subject or exam is beyond their comprehension. By breaking down a topic to its basic elements, any student can achieve greatness. When I worked as a pre med advisor, I came across many students who did not start out strong, especially when it came to chemistry, but when I worked with them, they developed the proper skills, motivation, and encouragement to succeed.

Persistence will always overcome resistance.

I have had a passion for science all my life. With that passion, I have tutored chemistry, biology, and anatomy for almost twenty years. My passion has helped college students to succeed in their science pre requisites for medical school.

Law school teaches one how to be critical and analytical. I taught these same skills to students to help them succeed on the SAT Reading sections. If I can interpret contrac

Very Knowledgeable and Patient Tutor

Vernon is a great tutor. He really cares for his students, puts a LOT of time and effort into the student’s progress, and is very supportive. He is a nice tutor, but also demands a lot of practice from the student which really makes you work to improve. He is very knowledgeable in many areas and he always tries his very best to make the student better which I appreciated a lot. I would definitely recommend him.

Expert & knowledgeable

In our first session we touched on the basics…Things that you must know in order to perform well on the MCAT. He is extremely knowledgeable and likes you to ask questions if you ever feel stuck. He gives you assignments to practice and readings which is helpful for me. I’m looking forward to our next session.

Initial Meeting and tutoring approach! Very impressed.

The first thing I noticed is that he’s not about wasting time. He assessed my situation to see if this was going to be beneficial for me. He got a thorough history on my background and my previous MCAT attempts. He explained his method of teaching and is going to take a foundational approach by building on content and this is EXACTLY what I need. He gave me “homework” to complete before our next session to assess where I am and we will move on from there with content. I am excited for our next session and ready to get to work.

First tutoring session

Vernon was very patient when I asked him to explain very basic things that I didn’t think of when approaching a problem. This following week I’ve been working on applying the concepts he taught me and I’ve been able to do really well!

Vernon is extremely knowledgeable

I worked with Vernon for about 8 months in 2-hour sessions 2 times per week preparing for the MCAT exam. Vernon started by discussing my strengths and weaknesses on subject matter and proceeded to coach me through all of the necessary material. Vernon is extremely knowledgeable on all content on the exam. He also comes prepared with plenty of resources and strategies so you are not missing anything in your preparation. Another positive to working with Vernon is that he is very understanding of the emotional needs of a pre-med student, and is very flexible with scheduling. I had previously taken the MCAT before working with Vernon, and when I took the exam again after working with Vernon my score increased by 11 points. I would recommend Vernon to any student who is preparing for this exam!

Great SAT Prep Tutor

Vernon tutored my son, Bryce on his second attempt at the SATs. He broke down the material for my son. My son felt much more prepared for his SATs this time. I highly recommend!

Informative and Supportive Tutor (5 STARS)

Mr. Vernon was my MCAT tutor for about 6 months. We had two 2hr in-person sessions per week. Before our tutoring sessions began, Mr. Vernon gave me tons of information about the MCAT including test taking tips, how to schedule the exam, where to obtain free resources on AAMC website, the cost and effectiveness of Kaplan books, The Berkeley Review (TBR) Books, AAMC Question packs, and score breakdown. Our tutoring sessions always included several questions from one of the resources (TBR or AAMC), followed by explanations, and ended with review questions and readings for the next session. Mr. Vernon was always concise in his explanations and he provided a schedule to follow so that I stayed on track even when he wasn't with me. I appreciated this schedule because it kept me accountable for the material when he wasn't around. My experience with Mr. Vernon is that he is committed and cares about his student's progress. He is kind and understanding of the emotional tolls studying can take on one's mental health. I recommend anyone taking the MCAt to consider him for tutoring

Amazing and knowledgeable MCAT tutor!

Vernon has been an asset and is an amazing tutor, to say the least. He is very detail oriented and knowledgeable. A+ Vernon teaches content and reinforces that this is a marathon not a sprint. His ability to hone in on subject matter that needs to be learned sets his apart from others.
