Hi, I’m Joeline! I am a NYS-certified grade 7-12 Social Studies teacher with over 6 years of experience as an educator, both as a tutor and teacher. I have a Bachelor's degree in history and a Master's degree in Secondary Education. In undergrad, I was often on the Dean's List. I even won a departmental award for best paper in Women's/Feminist History.
I have worked with students from elementary to graduate-level in a variety of subjects. I have tutored elementary school students mostly in Social Studies and English. I have done essay editing and tutoring in History, Literature, Test Prep, and Writing with my high school students. For my higher education and adult students, I have collaborated with them on Test Prep, Writing, and Essay Editing. Two of the students I'm most proud of were my Master's degree students. One was my mother, with whom I did a lot of essay editing for her MPA program. The other had failed a qualifying exam twice. Still, with my help, she was finally able to pass it and continue her degree program. As a teacher, I have worked with middle school students from 6th to 8th grade in Social Studies, providing culturally rich and responsive lessons in a classroom setting that promote discussion.
When I work with students, I like to be relaxed, have fun, and work collaboratively with my students- we're equal partners in your education. I want to give my students the tools necessary to succeed even without my help. This also entails obtaining the syllabus for the course in question to gain a better understanding of what specifically needs to be addressed and creating lesson plans that introduce the material in a fun and accessible way.
School can be difficult, but tutoring shouldn't be.
