Hi, I'm Richard. I have been helping students as a tutor for over thirty years in subjects as different as accounting and chemistry. Hi, I'm Richard. I have been helping students as a tutor for over thirty years in subjects as different as accounting and chemistry. My philosophy of tutoring, and teaching in general, is that the student should always be in the process of learning TWO things: the subject at hand, of course, but even more importantly he or she should be learning how best to approach new and unfamiliar material. What makes tutoring an ideal environment in which to learn is that I can help you see what ways of thinking you have that can be a great help in grasping new subjects. Effective teaching and effective learning are always a COLLABORATIVE effort.

I have made a lifetime of learning. Having earned three master's degrees and working on a doctoral degree, all in different fields, I have become very aware of the importance of approaching material in a way that minimizes the anxiety of what may seem an overwhelming task. This involves learning how to strategize learning. Let me be your guide and companion in your next academic journey and you will find the trip far easier and more pleasant than you imagined!

Approved Subjects

ACT Math

ACT Math

I have prepared students for the ACT, SAT, GRE, GMAT, MCAT, and DAT for over thirty years, and my students do well because I teach them how to understand the questions rather than rely on tricks that might become invalid from test to test.
ACT Science

ACT Science

I have taught chemistry, physics, biology as well as mathematics, including statistics and calculus, on the high school and college levels for nearly forty years. I have prepared students for the ACT since its inception, and have tutored SAT since I myself was a high school student.
Algebra 1

Algebra 1

I have taught math and science (with the necessary math background) on the high school and college level for nearly 40 years, and prepared students for Regents and other tests for the same length of time.
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

I have taught algebra techniques not only as a topic on its own but also in conjunction with the physical sciences and biology since the 1980s.
American History

American History

I am an economic historian and am currently working on a number of papers for presentation at conferences. I am equally familiar with American and global history.
Chemistry

Chemistry

I have taught General Chemistry, Organic Chem, Biochem and PChem, and also all MCAT sciences subjects for over forty years. I earned a master's degree in both organic and physical chemistry from NYU, and worked as a synthetic organic chemist for CIBA-GEIGY.
Geometry

Geometry

I have taught geometry in conjunction with several math and science courses, including physics, chemistry, calculus, economics, and quantum mechanics, and can therefore bring examples from several applications to the discussion.
Organic Chemistry

Organic Chemistry

I have taught Organic Chemistry and also all MCAT sciences subjects for over forty years. I earned a master's degree in both organic and physical chemistry from NYU, and worked as a synthetic organic chemist for CIBA-GEIGY.
Physics

Physics

I have taught Physics and also all MCAT sciences subjects for over forty years. I earned a master's degree in both organic and physical chemistry from NYU, and worked as a synthetic organic chemist for CIBA-GEIGY.
Probability

Probability

I have taught probability as part of an economic and business course I have given on the university level for nearly twenty years. Additionally, I use probability and statistics in my research as an economic historian.
SAT Math

SAT Math

I have taught students for three decades for many standardized exams, including SAT, ACT, GRE, GMAT, and MCAT. I work from the idea that all of these exams are based on interpreting written material rather than a test of formula memorization.
Trigonometry

Trigonometry

I have been tutoring mathematics through calculus for over thirty years. Also, many of the science and engineering courses I tutor assume a knowledge of trigonometry and the ability to apply that knowledge. This gives me a broad background from which to draw examples to help students.
World History

World History

I have a masters degree in medieval studies, am ABD for a PhD in history, and have taught history on the university level for seven years (from ancient history through modern European and American).

Very patient, caring, and amazing teacher

In just one session, Richard has helped me understand concepts of organic chemistry better than I could have ever imagined. An hour and a half session with him felt like 15 minutes. He explained complicated terms to me in a simple and much more understanding way. I can’t wait to see what the rest of my tutoring journey with Richard looks like. I highly recommend him!

ABSOLUTE BEST

Richard clearly know his material. He has helped me with my reviewing and getting a better understanding of Organic chem 1 and preparing for Organic Chem 2. But what makes Richard SPECIAL is his enthusiasm and passion for the work .. his complete explanations and generosity of teaching( this is rare) You never feel rushed and the feeling he is literally with you every step of the way is priceless. I have learned more clarifying points so far this summer that I did in a semester. I feel very fortunate to have found him.

Richard knows his stuff, and he’s a very patient tutor.

As an adult learning with just a GED under my belt and knows nothing about chemistry, he breaks it down so easy for me. I really like his teaching styles, the patience and passion that he has. He’s a commander in chief for chemistry.

Expert on the subject!

Richard is a wonderful tutor. He is not only an expert on the subject, but also is very funny and keeps the lesson entertaining. Great teaching style! My first tutoring session was just before my first quiz and I ended up getting a 95%! Would definitely recommend him.

Gifted and natural physics tutor

Richard is, by far, the best tutor I've ever had. He helped me prepare for my college physics exam and in 3 sessions I learned more from him than during the 11 weeks of my whole course. He's the 5th physics tutor I had but he's now the only one I call. Very flexible with meeting times and places as well. I am struggling just trying to find the right words to describe what a gifted and natural teacher Richard is. I'll never have to search for another tutor again.

Knowledgable and effective tutor

My first session with Richard was very helpful. He understands how to present and teach detailed information in an organized and concise manner, surely not an easy task but his experience shows. My only regret is not finding him sooner! He also has a great personality and sense of humor so working with him is not dull and boring, rather fun. Thanks Richard! I look forward to continuing our lessons!

Knowledgeable and patient tutor

Richard is an awesome tutor! Helped me with Finite Math and made it fun! He is extremely knowledgeable on the subject matter and presented in such a way where it was much easier to grasp than the way my professor was teaching it
