Hello! My name is Rebecca, and I am a certified music teacher based in New York City. I currently teach general music to elementary school students and enjoy helping learners build confidence, curiosity, and strong foundational skills. I hold a Master’s degree in Music Education from Queens College and a Bachelor’s degree in Management of Musical Enterprises from Baruch College. During my time at Baruch, I served as a Peer-Led Team Learning (PLTL) leader for College Algebra, where I facilitated collaborative problem-solving sessions and helped students strengthen their mathematical reasoning and study habits.

In addition to my classroom teaching, I have tutoring experience through Baruch College’s Student Academic Consulting Center with a wide range of subjects and learners. I have supported students in elementary and intermediate Japanese, college algebra, marketing, management, business law, and harmony. I also offer beginner music lessons in guitar, ukulele, piano, and cello, and enjoy helping students develop both musical technique and creative expression.

My tutoring approach focuses on training the mind to think critically and independently. Rather than simply giving answers, I guide students with questions that help them understand how to arrive at solutions on their own. I encourage students to problem-solve, reflect on their thinking, and build confidence in their abilities, providing support and clarification when needed.

Approved Subjects

Algebra 1

Algebra 1

I am a certified NYC teacher. During my time at Baruch College, I served as a Peer-Led Team Learning (PLTL) leader for College Algebra, where I facilitated collaborative sessions and helped students strengthen their problem-solving skills and mathematical reasoning. This experience taught me how to break down complex concepts into clear, manageable steps and guide students toward understanding rather than memorization. I focus on helping students build a strong foundation in algebraic thinking, develop confidence in their abilities, and approach problems with a structured and logical mindset.
Cello

Cello

I am a trained cellist who graduated from Celia Cruz Bronx High School of Music and studied at the 92nd Street Y’s School of Music. I have performed as part of a chamber orchestra in a variety of prestigious venues and events, including the Midori & Friends 25th Anniversary alongside renowned musicians, a recording at National Sawdust, and performances at Juilliard and Notre Dame Basilica. Through these experiences, I developed strong musicianship, ensemble skills, and performance confidence, which I now bring into my teaching. I work with beginner students to build foundational technique, music reading skills, and confidence on the cello in a supportive and engaging environment.
Elementary Math

Elementary Math

I’m a certified NYC teacher who works with elementary students every day, so I understand how to build strong math foundations in a way that feels clear and engaging. In addition to my classroom experience, I have a background in algebra instruction from my time as a Peer-Led Team Learning (PLTL) leader at Baruch College, where I helped students develop problem-solving skills and confidence in math. At the elementary level, I focus on making sure students truly understand concepts like number sense, problem-solving, and reasoning—not just memorizing steps. My goal is to help students feel confident, capable, and less frustrated with math over time.
General Music

General Music

I am a certified music teacher currently teaching general music to elementary school students in New York City. In my classroom, I teach foundational musical concepts such as rhythm, solfege, and music literacy through singing, movement, and instrument playing. My lessons are aligned with National Core Arts Standards and are designed to support students with a wide range of abilities and learning styles. I also help students develop musicianship skills such as steady beat, pitch matching, creative expression, and basic music theory in an engaging and supportive environment.
Guitar

Guitar

I developed my guitar teaching skills through graduate-level coursework in Group Instruction in Guitar, where I strengthened my understanding of chord structures and effective methods for teaching beginner students. I also began learning guitar in middle school, giving me years of experience with the instrument. I specialize in working with beginner guitar students, helping them build a strong foundation in chords, strumming patterns, and basic music reading. My lessons are designed to be engaging, supportive, and accessible, with a focus on building confidence and enjoyment while developing essential skills.
Piano

Piano

I hold both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in music, which have provided me with a strong foundation in music theory, musicianship, and performance. I began learning piano in middle school and have continued to develop my skills through my academic training and teaching experience. I specialize in working with beginner piano students, helping them build foundational skills such as note reading, rhythm, hand coordination, and basic technique. My lessons are designed to be engaging and supportive, with a focus on building confidence, helping students enjoy the learning process, and developing essential musical skills.
Voice (Music)

Voice (Music)

I developed my vocal training through graduate coursework in Vocal Pedagogy and Choral Methods, where I studied vocal technique, healthy voice production, and effective teaching strategies. I also performed with the Baruch Blue Notes for four years, gaining extensive ensemble and performance experience at venues such as the Barclays Center, the Henry R. Luce Auditorium, the InterContinental New York Barclay, and AMC Loews 34th Street. These experiences strengthened my musicianship, stage presence, and vocal confidence. I work with beginner voice students to develop proper technique, pitch accuracy, and expressive singing in a supportive and encouraging environment while helping them build confidence and enjoy the music they sing.
