My name is Brian. I graduated from Mount Sinai Graduate School with an MS in Clinical Research. While studying I had to learn complex statistical concepts and adopted the general philosophy behind probability/evidence-based mathematics as it pertains to biological research. I had a Teaching Assistant who was able to compartmentalize and simplify these complex topics into easily digestible parts. He made learning about Biostatistics not only efficient but fun, instead of frustrating and difficult. I felt empowered, and inspired to share that same feeling of hope I was granted. I became a teaching assistant in the same course; preparing notes, leading lab lectures and helping students through the same challenges that I overcame. I would often spend more time with struggling students, even if the time went beyond office hours. It brought me great joy when students would leave with a greater understanding of the material, which allowed them to challenge themselves beyond what they would have otherwise. Students emailed me thanking me for giving them resources to do well in the course and their future studies! I continued to tutor both Mount Sinai Students and Doctors Freelance, while I worked on my research project!

I have enjoyed tutoring graduate-level biostatistics (and Linear Models ) for 3 years. I teach one-on-one and hands-on, working through problems with students, as well as helping to explain any conceptual questions and the philosophy and logic behind many of the applied concepts. This gives meaning to applied formulas and numbers that go beyond simply assisting with math calculations. I also taught SAS, helping students transcribe biostatistical calculations into SAS code.

To provide the greatest benefits to my students, I offer free consultations so that students can see if my expertise matches their needs. I have flexible hours and look at coursework before a meeting in order to offer a concise tutoring session. Feel free to contact me with any questions or to schedule a session!

Biostatistics

I taught at Mount Sinai Graduate School as a Teaching assistant for Biostatistics and Linear Models Courses for one year. During those courses, I was responsible for teaching during lab lectures and lab assignments. I also held office hours, where I gave constructive feedback to students regarding their assignments and progress. For students who needed more individualized help, I often stayed beyond office hours to provide that assistance! I have also led midterm and final exam reviews, as well as guide and advise students on projects. This was all while I simultaneously worked on a Mendelian Randomization Research Project, utilizing the same Statistical Principles that I taught to fit the framework of a complex statistical model. Following that, I continued to tutor Mount Sinai Graduate students and medical doctors in a freelance capacity, meeting with them once a week to help them understand statistical concepts and assist with completing assignments. MS in Clinical Research.
SAS

SAS

I taught at Mount Sinai Graduate School as a teaching assistant for Biostatistics and Linear Models Courses for one year. I was also tasked with teaching introductory SAS coding, as the coding software and its applications to statistics were intertwined. This involved teaching the basic syntax, file conversions, navigation and troubleshooting of SAS coding, all of which I have been trained to do via the Computational Tools in Research Course at Mount Sinai. As the course was many students' first introduction to computer programming of any sort, I was very patient and comprehensive in my explanations of the various procedures and data creation techniques, as well as explaining their relevance to the statistical tasks at hand. During office hours, I did not simply give people workable code, I helped explain the theory and organization behind each line, what each line is achieving and how it is working together with the others. My students thus were able to become self-reliant, capable of producing more advanced code on their own! After my teaching assistant duties, I continued to tutor in SAS coding in conjunction with Biostatistics tutoring as a freelance tutor, and have helped Mount Sinai graduates and Doctors persevere in their quest to become competent researchers!
