Teaching is a passion of mine. I began teaching kids and over the years adapted to whatever style my students required. I am comfortable with all age groups - individual instruction and group settings. My experience includes College Level and Corporate Training courses in traditional and digital instruction. Since early 2021 I have been teaching Adobe Software like Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, InDesign, and Animate, as well as traditional art courses including character design, storyboarding, comics, and foundation classes in drawing, anatomy, and illustration.

I teach mostly online via Zoom, and in some instances - schedule-depending - can travel to my students. I am eager to help my next student realize the artist within. Please feel free to inquire about my classes.

Animation

Animation

In this class, I teach Adobe Animate. If you like Flash-style animation, this is the program to learn. We learn the basics and fundamentals of animation as well as the fundamentals of the software. We'll get familiar with the strengths of Animate and learn to render movie files from our work. The renders may be used to composite an animation reel in the future. Depending on the students drawing experience and style, sessions will include character animation of any style. Ideally, this class is 12 sessions, 2 hours each, but can be customized if needed. Principles covered include: squash and stretch, drag, anticipation, motion arcs, follow through, extremes, keys, inbetweens, shape tweens, classic tweens, motion tweens, walk cycles, symbols and when to use them, parenting layers, assett warping, audio tracks and more. Film Credits: Brother Bear (Koda), Lilo & Stitch (Stitch), The Emperor’s New Groove (Pacha), Tarzan (Porter), Mulan (Misc.), The Little Match Girl Television & Theme Park Animation: Disney’s California Adventure Theme Park: The Little Mermaid Kiosk – Ursula (2001) Tokyo Disney: Winnie the Pooh’s Honey Hunt - Tigger & Christopher Robbins (1999) How to Haunt a House - Goofy – (2000) Teachers of all ages, grade school through college, and adults. Step-by-step art instruction with case studies to demonstrate. All classes get you working within the first ten minutes of the session. Classes are hands-on and designed for immediate, measurable results.
Drawing

Drawing

This online class works with various skill levels and is custom-made for each student. We cover the "Why" and the "How" of drawing. Students get a demo for each class, then work on that aspect of drawing to develop confidence, methodology, and reveal their identity as an artist. Each class starts with a short drawing exercise, followed by a demo online. Next, the student puts the demo into practice, followed by a teacher critique. All the basic building blocks of drawing will be addressed - however, this is not a class of formulas - only principles. How each artist achieves his or her results is what we are cultivating in the long run. I want each student to realize they have a talent unique to them, and we strive to reveal their identity as artists, not make perfect technical drawings. Illustration and classical art references will be discussed, studied, copied, and evaluated. We learn: Forms vs Shape - the basics of drawings Anatomy - using shapes and forms to make the structure, basic muscle and skeletal arrangements - male, and female form comparisons, heads, hands, feet, torso, etc. Portrait drawing Figure Drawing Swpth, composition, shadow and light Drapery studies and where to use them Each session is two hours, designed ideally as a 10 - 12 session class, or ongoing. As with all my online classes, students must have a camera and the ability to share their work.
Film

Film

I started working in After Effects when I worked as an art director on video games like Madden NFL. I learned the influence of After Effects and how I could make Pre Visualization Presentations, along with Motion Graphics, Cinematic reels, story reels, and Composite videos. Many of my videos have been published for Ad Agency clients, in video games, and as story reels for motion picture pitches. My After Effects lessons get you working in the first session, teaching simple and basic techniques that may be applied with longevity for many different effects and allowing students the ability to problem-solve their own design challenges creatively and successfully.

Passionate, Patient, and Considerate

Within just a few lessons with Tony, I had developed far more confidence in how I draw. Tony has the perfect balance with teaching both formal techniques, and how to apply them in common sense ways. Any aspiring artists would be well served in reaching out to him as a tutor. Fully recommended!

Great with my 11yo

My daughter loved her lesson and learned a lot of useful things. She was a bit frustrated and overwhelmed trying to use photoshop for the first time. Now she isn’t so hesitant to draw with it.

A teacher and a mentor

I came to Tony and asked him for a plan to make me a better artist. I study concept design and needed some private lessons. Tony is very patient, helping, give excellent advices and corrections. He is very experienced in the field of concept design so it helped me to learn from someone with experience and teaching skills that were beyond of my expectations... Other teachers just wanted to see my drawings and correct them but Tony came up with a plan that was very specific to my needs. Thank you Tony and we will continue working. I also hope to work with you in the future. You are an amazing teacher and mentor :)
