Hi, I'm Iqra! I graduated cum laude with a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from Farmingdale State College, where I also cultivated a strong interest in writing. I earned A’s in my English and essay-based courses, which helped strengthen my ability to craft clear, thoughtful, and persuasive essays. These skills were crucial in my acceptance to the highly selective Master’s program in Individualized Genomics and Health at Johns Hopkins University. Throughout this program, I gained extensive experience in academic and professional writing, including interdisciplinary communication in fields such as SNP analysis, public health, and research. I also contributed as a co-author on a scientific manuscript currently in progress, further refining my ability to write with clarity and precision.
More recently, I matched into the Genetic Counseling program at LIU Post, a program with an acceptance rate of less than 7%. I was offered 12 out of 14 interviews during the match process, largely due to the strength of my personal statement and resume. These experiences have given me valuable insight into what makes a successful college or admissions essay. In addition, I have worked as a volunteer ESL tutor with adult learners at Literacy Nassau, where I developed a patient and accessible approach to breaking down complex ideas and supporting students from diverse backgrounds.
