Hi! My name is Brandon R. I earned my MA in English from National University in 2016, and my MEd from Western Governors University in 2021. I am an English professor for Bryant & Stratton College, Post University, Bellevue University, and Columbia Southern University. I have more than 5 years of experience teaching at the college level. I primarily teach first and second-year college writing courses. On occasion, I have taught in other disciplines such as communications and college success skills. These courses are delivered online in both synchronous and asynchronous formats. At this moment, I am teaching seven courses: two sections of Pre-College English (designed for students that scored low on entrance exams), and five sections of English 101 equivalents (the nomenclature and administrative codes are different from college to college).
The age and experience level of my students is extremely broad. I have had students as young as 16 years old and as old as 65 years old. My students come from all different walks of life. Some are traditional students coming directly from high school; some are working professionals looking to advance their careers; some are active duty members of the military; some are single mothers looking for a fresh start; some come from difficult upbringings; and some are looking a way to get out of a difficult place in life (homelessness, recent incarceration, job layoffs, family deaths, sickness, etc.). I have met so many amazing people during my years of teaching.
Likewise, my students come into my classrooms with a wide range of experiences. Some are very experienced writers; some are published writers; some speak English as a second language; some have not taken a formal English course in 10+ years; some have had life-long struggles with reading or writing resulting from learning disorders such as dyslexia. No two students are ever the same, and I am very aware of the need to be flexible and accommodating to the preferred learning styles of my students.
