Hello, I’m Kathryn. I have 4 years experience of tutoring college students in writing in a wide variety of subjects, including 1 year tutoring online. My experience includes tutoring college students who speak English as a second language and those who have learning disabilities. I have helped students complete in text citations and bibliographies/works cited in both MLA and APA styles included annotated bibliographies in both styles. I also have experience in helping students paraphrase and avoid plagiarism. When tutoring, I start by asking my students what they want to work on in their writing that day and focus on two or three things. Then, I have students read what they have already written aloud and then together we work on editing and proofreading their work with a focus on what they previously identified as their goals for the session. I ensure that students take ownership of their writing by having them be the ones to edit the document.
In addition to my tutoring experience, I hold Bachelors degrees in Childhood Education (grades 1-6) and English and a Masters degree in Special Education (Grades 1-6). I am also a New York State certified teacher in Childhood Education (grades 1-6) and Special Education (grades 1-6). I have experience substitute teaching in kindergarten through fifth grade.
